I really can't decide who is the best. There were too many superb goalkeepers: Italy: Angelo Peruzzi Gigi Buffon Gianluca Pagliuca Francesco Toldo Spain: Iker Casillas Santiago Canizares France: Gregory Coupet Sebastien Frey Fabien Barthez Mikael Landreau Germany: Timo Hildebrand Oliver Khan Jens Lehmman Brazil: Dida Julio Cesar Argentina: Roberto Abbondanzieri England: David James David Seaman Nigel Martyn US: Brad Friedel Who you think is the best?
Don't forget Peter Schmeichel, he just about counts (retired 2003-ish) and despite being a Man United llegend he is a very good keeper.
David James is an idiot. He can be a brilliant world class kepper but it is those moments when he does stupid htings and runs out his box etc. that let him down.
I think Casillas wins it for me. He has done some brilliant stuff and has locked out the GK spot for Spain for a while. (poor Reina and dudek)
Buffon is great too somewhat "eccentric" at times put again a class act.
Friedel played very well last season for Aston Villa.
I forgot also van der Saar. I agree about james he can make in the same match world class saves and then can't even catch the ball. Buffon after his injuries is good, but it's not good as he was before. Friedel isn't the goalkeeper who a big team need, he is an 8.5/10 goalkeeper and always plays at his best. Niemi could be an other superb keeper, but he had too many injuries during his career.
Which is why he is great for Aston Villa and previoulsy Blackburn he may only be a 8.5 keeper but he plays with 10/10 commitment. I have seen him make brilliant saves (especially for someone his size) (sorry Brad)
At the opposite end of the spectrum did you see any of Gomes (tottenham hotspur) he had a shocking season and it shows what a lack of confidense can do to a player (no vids on youtube though)
