I've never read Garth Nix, even if i read a lot of books in my life, but I'll have a look at it!
Lord of The Rings is also my favourite book, but I loved Spin by R.C. Wilson, or Robots by Asimov. +Les Trois Mousquetaires, by alexandre Dumas (french book, very famous!!^^)

Ooh Dunadan, you so have to try Garth Nix - especially his Abhorsen series. If you like fantasy stories, this one will be interesting for you. It's totally different - about necromancy (but it's more than that).
