What do you think about Sears tower being renamed Willis Tower?
I think it was really stupid, because everyone knows it as Sears Tower. When people go through Chicago and see that skyscraper they will say something like "Hey look, there's Sears Tower!". It's also stupid because as Sears Tower it used to have a world record.
Why should we blame that guy, he didn't tell them to change the name. The Willis company changed it so therefore i blame them!
Alright, once you sell something like the Sears Tower, you should very well know that they have the right to change the name, to anything they please. It's not the companies fault. Sure 'Willis tower; sounds like s crappy name, but the guy's who sold it, should take the blame.
They didn't have to sell the tower, they could have worked out a deal perhaps on not changing the name. To tell you the truth, the former owners could care less. They got their money, while you guys blame the wrong people.

They didn't sell the tower. The Willis company just bought office space in it, and whoever owns the most gets the name. I could go there, buy the office space from them, and change it to whatever I like. The Tower still belongs to the same people though. (Probably the city of Chicago)
so its the citys problem and the willingly approved the name changing.
If I was the person who got to change the name I probably would have kept it as the Sears Tower though. I'm not saying it's wrong of them not to, I'm just disappointed they didn't. I see your point though.

the thing is, that with the possibility of name changing you create a huge goodwill for that tower. people know, that if you name it after your company you have great advertissment coming with the offices. so the city can dictate higher prices. if ou buy a lot of offices(probably mor than you need, but you want to be biggest) and you do not change the name than you have greatly overpaid.
but yes i can understand that people are not happy, when cultural and iconic objects are renamed.
