If it's ever, I say Wayne Gretzky (Duh)

For now, yes, it's probably Sidney Crosby...

I think he means the current,

I would place Crosby up there in second with Kovalchuk, Thorton and Lecalvier in 3rd. But first I would have to say Ovechkin as he is better all around, considering he hits and has the skill of Crosby.

Not too mention he is pretty funny! :P

Hm, for me it's a toss up between the two obvious ones. Besides Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, can't think of any off the top of my head.

Oh, and Evgeni Malkin. (Did I get that right?)

Oh, and Evgeni Malkin.

Eeep! I knew I forgot someone! I would tie Malkin with Crosby. But Ovechkin to be the top in my opinion.

Getzlaf also needs to be taken into consideration, he seems to be rising in skill and points every year. Hossa who has lack of luck in the finals it seems, but he is still a good player, especially with Flippula and Franzen even though he won't be playing with them now, considering he went to Chicago.

Cheechoo, leads the league in goals one year playing with Thorton, Ever think to put them together again San Jose? You know, instead of putting Cheechoo a fourth liner?

T.J Oshie seems to be a rising star also, I would keep an eye on him over the next few years everyone! Remember, I told you.

Blake Wheeler, looks to also be a rising star with some amazing goals. Seriously, youtube it.

Is no one recognizing the Goalies? Like, maybe Brodeur possibly the alltime best goalie recently passing Patrick Roy in Wins of all time? Even Steve Mason, he truly boosted Columbus to make the playoffs for the first time with The help of Rick Nash!

Kristien Huselias sorry for spelling there, kind of went unrecognized even though he was probably Calagary's top forward in the 07-08 season.

Possibly Defensemen? Lets just skip Pronger, Neidermayer, Phaneuf and all those guys! Lets focus on In my opinion the best Defensemen of all time! Of course, Niklas Lidstrom! Been Captaining Detroit as the best franchise for the last few years and has won the Norris trophy like what, 7 out of 8 years now?

What about Mike Green? Breaking the record for most consecutive games for a goal as a defensman, even though he does tend to get out of position and give the puck up alot.

Speaking of Mike Green, let's go to Washington, forget about Ovechkin!
What about Alexander Semin (No...) and Niklas Backstrom (not the goalie). Two great young players,Especially Semin who seems to hold enough talent to be a consistent 50 goal scorer.
If you read this reply to this line, this is a test.
Rene Bourque of Calgary? Great player who also scored his first Hat trick during the 08-09 season...

Let's go down down down, alright? And focus on Bobby Ryan who was a rookie this season and was impreesive to say the least! Jonas Hiller, rawr.

Anyways, I will add to this some other time as I need to go.

The best all-time is Wyne Gretzky of course. But if you're talking about now,I'll have to say Alexander Ovechkin without a doubt. He is a bona-fide superstar,and might even (dare I say it?) be greater than Gretzky one day. But for now,he's the best in the league.
Top 5
------
1. Alexander Ovechkin
2. Sidney Crosby
3. Jarome Iginla (very underrated)
4. Joe Thornton
5. Martin St. Louis

3. Jarome Iginla (very underrated)

Jarome Iginla is not underrated! He is very well known and in my opinion, is credited as he deserves to be. He isn't a stand out phenominal point getter, he is just all around good, and even I, being a Flames fan (3rd Favorite) think he is undeserving of 3rd, but more of a 7-8th.

5. Martin St. Louis

Hrm, he is good, but definitely undeserving of 5th best! Maybe 15th or so,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zillacutz, I agree (except the funny looking part, but he does do and say some funny things) If Crosby could be come a little more physical and add what Ovechkin does he definately could be the best.
Well Perslos,I mean he is underrated where I live. In California,people don't know to much about hockey players,especially players that play for Canadian teams.
Okay, I would have to say that right now, the best player is Alex Ovechkin, although that is also due to the fact that I am a HUGE Capitals fan.
Of all time, I can't really decide, so here are my top 5 in no order:
1. Gordie Howe
2. Bobby Orr
3. Peter Bondra
4. Wayne Gretzky
5. Joe Sakic
Of course, you also have to name some great goalies (in no order, except #1) :
1. Patrick Roy
2. Martin Brodeur
3. Ken Dryden
4. Olaf Kolzig (a.k.a Olie, Kolzilla)
5. Dominik Hasek
My favorite team is the Ducks,and I think Teemu Selanne is a world class athlete. If it wasn't for his return and Jonas Hiller's dynamic second half performance,they wouldn't even of made the playoffs.
