In the Vietnam war, there was a chemical gas poured down in South Vietnam to kill all the tree's so that the Americans could see thier enemies. Unfortunately the exposure created major problems such as death, and what is still affecting the people out in South Vietnam today, is birth defects. The cause of this was called: Agent Orange.
