Well there's two ways.

The first is to type what you want, highlight it, and then click the button that corresponds with what you want.

So I'll type "Bold"

highlight it...then press the bold button

Now it will look like: Bold

You can do that with any of those blue buttons at the top of the post box.

The second and a bit more difficult way is to type the bb code yourself. You can find a guide on that here.
