The Offspring are quite funny to liosten because it's really easy, it's so-called pop-punk, and there's nothing that complicated or technical or revolutionnary in their music... It's fun..Nothing more to say.
There're not really a punk band as the term refers more to bands like The Clash or The Ramones, there more pop-punk, a revival stream of punk in the 80's (like Bad Religion, Green Day or NOFX)
more than you normally see in the style.
Wrong.Absolutely wrong.I forgive because I suppose you don't know enough band to compare. (this is not an insult, just a supposition, I used to know nothing about pop-punk and stuff like that before a friend of mine told me to listen to it) Bad Religion: three guitars, one of the most melodic pop-punk band. NOFX: melodic too, eventhough it's a bit more hard Green Day: they used to be melodic, now they're just lame. Against Me!: very melodic, with acoustic guitar etc... Pop-punk is a style of punk which incorporates much more melody in their compos than the main punk style (as Rancid).
But you're right, the drummer is really good...another great drummer is Travis Barker (Blink-182 -_-', and now Transplants )
No, sir, you are. You probably judge how melodic the band is off of "Pretty Fly" and "Come Out and Play." Try All I Want, the guitar will prove me right.

No you misundertsood me!(i'll be the boogeyman of this site!^^) I didn't mean they're not melodic, I meant they're not more melodic than you normally find in the style... Because the style they are in (so-called pop-punk) is a melodic variant of punk. I didn't say tehy're not melodci!!not at all!they're indeed really melodic, just they're not really MORE melodic than other bands you find in pop-punk.
@dunadan,they don't play pop-punk.They are a punk rock band.Well, they used to be punk rock.Their later stuff is a little more pop-punk.So they don't just play pop-punk,their first 5 albums are punk rock.

Yeah, in fact you're right, but they appeared in the same time than pop-punk wave (Green Day, Blink, NOFX, Screaching Weasels, etc...) But punk-rock is a melodic version of punk...not quite different...
