I know another strategy. All you need is that ability that does damage based on the amount of hp you've lost. If you get really high hp and raise that ability's level, you'll be able to kill most enemies in 1 hit if you're hurt enough.
recommended class: mage. avoid (unless looking for hard mode): warrior. recommended early skills: heal, replenish mana (can't remember actual name). Upgrade throughout. recommended powerfull skills: shadow, and the three-shot skill. When stuck, use the training room. Bring a shield, even though it'll get destroyed in one hit-it's one less hit you actually take.
bonuses: one guy gives you a ring. To activate, look at the moon, you'll get a bonus skill point. also, for emergency funding, there is a guy with leaves, take leaves to someone upstairs, bring medicine back, sell each for 3 gold.
To cheat, save, go into the monster portal (or the human portal) on a level with a reward, get killed, restart, defeat training ward: you just got the item anyways. (really nice for levels with multiple possible rewards)
note: it's been a long time since i played. These are a very few levels.
blood mage (final portal): recomended essential skills: shadow, heal, replenish mana...ok, that's pretty much all battles, so i won't mention them again. equipment: voodoo shield is a must; it'll give you the most time before the attacks actually damage you. note that when the blood mage looses its sheild, its attacks are doubled in strength.
liquid metal (final portal): um...don't die?
grim reaper/death dude (final portal). viscous health slice attack, as well as a drain health attack Tip: don't heal unless the next attack can kill you. while the slice attack can deal about 90% of your hp in damage, that's 90% of your current hp, not your total. You may need to let it kill you to find out exactly how powerful it does.
