Michael Jackson's murder case continues. There is no hard evidence yet, but fingers are pointed at his doctor. Authorities say they are neither denying nor confirming a murder.
Coming not so soon to a theater to you:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians movie release date is February 5th, 2010. Fans are disappointed by the long wait, and by the cast. Annabeth will be played by 23 year-old Alexandra Daddario. Now let's remember that Annabeth is 12 years old! And there is a relationship between Annabeth and Percy (who will be played by Logan Lerman). A teenager played by a 23 year old just doesn't work, no matter how short and young looking she is! For more info on this, visit:

National Parks: The Great Smokey Mountains
The Smokey Mountains National Park is located in both Tennessee and North Carolina. It's home to extremely diverse plant and animal life and to many species that can be found no where else in the world. The Smokey Mountains are the most visited National park in the country.
With over 800 miles of trails the Smokey Mountains are truly a hikers paradise. Yet hiking isn't the only reason to visit the National park, with extensive auto trails, fishing, and picnicking spots the Park is a great way to relax in the great outdoors. One of the more visited of the auto trails is Cades Cove, ands it no wonder, housing spectacular views of the mountains and extensive wildlife The Cove is quite a beautiful place.
One of the park's main attractions are the cabins atop Mt. LeConte. The cabins are only accessible by hiking up the mountain on your choice of five trails, the shortest of which is 5.6 miles long. However, it's well worth it from the spectacular views you get from high up top, to the roughing it with no electricity. The cabins are indeed a marvelous place.
However, if being outside isn't your forte, the area around the Smokey mountains is well worth the visit. The two cities closest to the park on the Tennesse side are Pigeonforge and Gatlinburg and both have many perks about them. Pigeonforge is more of an old Tennesse type of city infused with the modern day, from Cafes (such as the famous Applewood barn restaurant) to indoor skydiving, you'l never be bored (or hungry!) when you're there. Gatlinburg, however, is more of a tourist trap than anything but with hundreds of stores and attractions you'l never want to go home.

Tennis: Specifically Roger Federer
On July 5th history was made. Roger Federer achieved his 15th Grand Slam. He broke Pete Sampras's record of 14. If that wasn't enough, he also broke another record that day. He played the longest final (in games played) in tennis history against Andy Rodd ick. The final score was Roger Federer def. Andy Rodd ick 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 (I know, pretty amazing). Also, earlier in the year at the Roland Garros (French Open, the 2nd Grand Slam of the year) he went and won that, completing the career grand slam (winning all 4 grand slams in your career). Roger Federer also holds the record for most Grand Slams Semi-final appearances in a row. I believe it is 23 in a row. He has also made it into 20 career grand slam finals. Some other interesting records Roger Federer holds are that he has won 5 Wimbledon's straight, tying Bjorn Borgs record before being defeated to Rafael Nadal the next year. He also has the record for most consecutive U.S. Open championships (5). He will try to keep that record in August. Good luck Roger, to all of your other achievements.

In the billboard 200, Daughtry passed the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and hit number one for the second time with his second album, making it two for two, and is only the third artist to have done this in the 2000's. The other two artists are D12 and Danity Kane.
In other news AC/DC's frontman Brian Johnson has considered retiring, as he has revealed this in a magazine interveiw; "We were talking about the end of the tour and I said, 'we're finishing in May and that's me done!" The 61-year old insists that he is commited to the band but says, "It's not me, it's just my age."
The band Weezer has also reported that they have finished most of the work on their seventh album. They left a message on their official website that states, "the bands 7th album, titled TBA, is pretty close to a wrap now, though there is still some remaining work to be done. There have also been some other special Weezer studio recordings done recently, but more on that later." The site also notes a planned deluxe edition of the bands 1996 album, "Pinkerton"

U.S news by Brett trumpour-Bryce Gillies, a student at Northern Arizona University, left last Saturday for his backpacking trip through the Deer Creek-Thunder River area of the park, and said he would return on Monday. A search effort was launched on Tuesday after he was reported missing.
Some 50 National Park Service volunteers and staffers from Grand Canyon and nearby parks joined in the search. One search team found a body in the Bonita Creek area on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. ET) that "has been presumptively identified" as Gillies, according to NPS.
"The body will be recovered by helicopter via long-line operation and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner," NPS said.
It is the second death this month at Grand Canyon National Park, a world-famous landmark that receives about 5 million visitors yearly.
A California man drove his car over the edge of canyon's South Rim, plunging some 600 feet into the ravine. His July 13 death was ruled a suicide.
More than 100 hikers have died at the park between 1925 and 2006, half of them fatal falls.

IRAN:
Hundreds of thousand oposition members in Teheran gathered near the university to take part in the friday prayer held by Ali Akbar Haschemi Rafsandschani, who is a cleric with a critical attitude towards the governement. To stop the supporters of presidency canditate and opposition leader Mussawi, police forces and civil militia closed down an area 3 kilometers from the university. Eye witnesses report about massive tear gas usements and a lot of demonstrants were arrested.
Only a few thousand made it to the university entrance where Ali Akbar Haschemi Rafsandschani held his prayer. The prayer started with an appeal to Mussawis supporters not to disturb the religous and peaceful atmosphere with hateful slogans. Afterwards, he adressed the police forces to release all political prisoners.
The first part of the prayer is a religous ritual with readings from the Koran.
The second part is dominated by political and social topics.
Ali Akbar Haschemi Rafsandschani wants the people in iran to focus to solve problems and build a better future for Iran. He also wants an open debate about the recent elections where Ahmadinedschad won against Mussawi. The opposition claims that the elecion has been manipulated.
Rafsandschani says that there is a crisis in Iran and he demands the governement to show more tolerance towards the Iranian people and the Iranian tv stations to show what really was happening in the last few weeks, and not to play down the demonstrations and street fight that have been happening in the major cities in Iran over the last couple of weeks

Senators Try to Head Off White House Showdown Over F-22 Funding
Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., are trying to strike F-22 funding from a defense bill before it gets anywhere close to the president's desk -- as he has threatened to veto a bill that contains the money.
An unlikely duo of senators plans to make a last-ditch attempt next week at heading off a showdown between the White House and Congress over funding for fighter jets that the Pentagon doesn't even want.
Against the advice of the Defense Department and President Obama, the Senate Armed Services Committee last month approved an additional $1.75 billion for seven extra F-22 fighter jets in the defense spending bill.
But Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the chairman and ranking member of that committee, are trying to strike that money before the bill gets anywhere close to the president's desk. Obama has threatened to veto any legislation that includes money to buy more F-22 jets beyond the 187 requested.
The Levin-McCain amendment could represent the last chance to avoid a showdown with the White House. And passions are high on both sides.
"We have to deal with the decision of the Armed Services Committee ... to add F-22 planes, which uniformed and civilian leaders of the military indicate they do not want and do not need and we cannot afford," Levin said on the Senate floor.
McCain accused F-22 backers of trying to commit millions in taxpayer dollars for the sole purpose of creating or saving jobs.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., who pushed for the extra jets and whose state would lose at least 2,000 jobs should the cap be imposed, said the debate is not just about job losses.
"This is a debate about the national security of the United States of America," he said. "It is regrettable the administration needs to issue a veto threat for funding intended to meet a real national security requirement that has been consistently confirmed by our uniformed military leaders."
A vote is expected Monday on the amendment to the defense bill, after Levin temporarily withdrew the provision Wednesday so that the Senate could first address a hate crimes bill. The Senate voted Thursday to attach that legislation, which would extend federal protections to people attacked because of their sexual orientation or gender, as an amendment to the $680 billion defense spending bill.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid supports the Levin-McCain amendment, but is struggling to whip up the votes to push it through.
On the House side, lawmakers also voted to add a $369 million down payment for 12 additional F-22 jets, in defiance of the White House.
"I don't want to see the (production) line shut down," said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee. "If you're going to be prepared, you better not shut down the line."
Murtha predicted the F-22 addition would make it through committee, but said there could be a similar confrontation in the full House if someone puts up an amendment like the Levin-McCain measure.
Obama and Gates have taken an increasingly firm tone against Democrats and Republicans trying to push F-22 jets on the military.
"We do not need these planes," Obama said in a letter to senators Monday, pledging to veto a bill that doesn't follow his guidelines.
"It is time to draw the line on doing defense business as usual," Gates said during an address in Chicago Thursday. "The president has drawn that line. And that red line with regard to a veto is real."
If Obama vetoes the defense bill, it would be the first veto of his presidency. It is unlikely Congress would have enough votes to override.
