Actually, it might be because in your home there are many more threatening fumes than outdoors. that and kids won't be able to get their minds off of their World of Warcraft game.
I think that everybody has something in there brain like ADD but soem worse than others. But the ADHD is almost 100% by genetics. You can never be sure of things that have to do the the brain...
I think ADD is made up. I was told I have ADD because I don't pay attention in school, but I have no problem paying attention to things I'm actually interested in. And I spend a lot of time outside. I don't see what being outside has to do with paying attention though...
No, ADD is real. It's just often misdiagnosed because of different factors. I got misdiagnosed with a serious case of ADHD and ended up on some medications that made me go literally psycho. Shows the importance of good psychiatric care >>.>>
As for the study, I think it's got other variables involved. It's impossible to tell that. Usually genetic miswiring is the cause. Got a nice lecture on what causes it.
I have known people with it though. Almost no attention span and you often have to say something three or four times for them to understand what you're saying.
I agree with what you're saying. I've seen how my brother and I grew up (Very little TV, no video games, always outside), compared to a friend who never played outside and was addicted to video games, who was put on medication in his early high school years.
I was diagnosed with it at about age 8; my parents decided not to medicate though (which I'm now very thankful for). Eventually there comes to a point where you have to stop taking the drugs & get used to functioning and trying to focus on things that you're supposed to focus on. At least now, I have 20 years of practice from the general date that I received the diagnosis.
I don't see where being outside has any relevance. The difficulty is in focusing on things even when you want to - you have a tendency to get distracted while doing something that you're even interested in.
There's a lot of tricks I learned in trying to remain focused... although funny enough, I find it makes me really good at multi-tasking.
I spent a lot of time outside as a kid & I was quite fit (still am), but I'm not sure what relevance that would hold - I would be just as distracted outside as I would have been inside .
Wooow, that topic title was a bit of a fail for me. It makes it seem much worse than it is
The study shows that merely spending time outside is a treatment for Attention Defecit Disorder. Now I drew the conclusion that not going outside would CAUSE ADD, which is probably wrong.
I am just saying people need to try other forms of treatment before resulting to the drugs offered up to them.

yeah how i love this studies. people take to unrelated things and make a relation between them. especially if you have complex things, you have more than 2 variables you know of and possibly an even greater number of important variables you do not know of.
oh and a great example for the validity of these two variables studies, was a study, which has proven with statistical methods, that pirates protect the world from natural catastrophies, because since the number of pirates is decreasing the number of catastrophies is increasing.
