Hi,

Just wondering what actually happens when we flag a comment. I have a few questions.

Does it go onto a type of list?
Does it show the comment, the author, and the location of the comment?
How many times does a comment have to be flagged to be noticed?
Do mods/admins actively check this list (or whatever it is)?
Is this similar to the defunct upvote function which only increases the size of the text?
Do all mods/admins have the ability to see flagged comments?

These questions will probably only be answerable by a mod/admin, as normal users have no control/view of this system.

Probably only the location and the comment.

How many times do you think people actually stop whining about the spam to actually flag it?

Do mods/admins actively check this list (or whatever it is)?

I'm not sure, the moderators seem not to react quickly to flagging, and some moderators locked their comments so we can't report spam directly.

Yes.


Furthermore, may I suggest to the main staff of Armor Games that more moderators be employed? The last time I checked, there weren't that many active moderators.

I'm not sure, the moderators seem not to react quickly to flagging, and some moderators locked their comments so we can't report spam directly.

Moderators cannot see flagged content, or rather they cannot see it is flagged. All that is flagged goes directly to Carlie (probably on a list), with all needed info.
Therefor is flagging comments something that needs to be done some ten times to be noticed, and it will take some time before it is deleted, due to only admins being able to see the list.

So for the questions:
-Most likely. The is stored somewhere in the database for the admins to see.
-Again, most likely. If there are one offender popping up a lot, it will be taken care of, though, if it needs to be taken care of quickly, it is easier to report directly to a mod with links to the offender and evidence of crime.
-5 to 10 times, I think. I managed to get something deleted with about 7 flags.
-Yes, but again, it needs more than one flag to be taken care of, and there is a rather limited amount of people checking it, as the moderators cannot access it.
-It does not make it bigger, no. It goes to a database, as I know of, at least, and will be stored there.
-Only admins, and possibly the staff. The moderators are unable to see flagged comments, and thus cannot act upon it.

Furthermore, may I suggest to the main staff of Armor Games that more moderators be employed? The last time I checked, there weren't that many active moderators.

It is because of the summer vacation, and before that, the exams. Most of the mods are in the end, or middle of their education, which means plenty of exams and papers to write, so the real life is taking time from moderating. It will probably be better.

Which is why more moderators, preferably not stolen by exams, would be a good addition to the Armor Games society.

So, preferably younger mods, it seems. After exams comes jobs, so we seemingly need mods of the age of 16 and down.
Or something like that.

Your words are truer than you think. Summer moderators would be good too. A large group of around 20 summer moderators. (only for summer) They could have shifts. About 5 at a time for 6 hours each. That should cover every day and still not overwork them. Armor Games could have a sort of special group of moderators that works like a real job, it would also be educational, teaching young adults how the real world's job system works.

the idea of more little mods has been suggested before

As for what happens when you flag a comment, I think it sends something to the admins. Maybe the mods, don't know. Then again it might just bold it like the up vote did. I'd suggest you ask a mod or admin directly.

As for the mini mods, I don't like that idea. There aren't very many people on this site that I would trust with power. Probably about 5, and that's not enough to do anything. Hopefully the mods will start coming back soon, or the staff recruit a few new ones.

I mean there are people on the site that would do that, but few could be trusted.

As of the Flagging. It alerts the Admins. I don't really know what happens after that.

Well, I wish something horrific actually happened to the spammer.

When I go to a game I usually have to flag 2 of the 5 most recent comments. I do remember one case where I flagged all of the 5 most recent.

I flag constantly but I worry it has no purpose...I'm almost at the point where I'm getting tired of it.

Stop posting one word comments to games people!!!

Mods = no. Admins = I think yes.

We don't react to flagging at all. Admins do, though.
Some? Others than me? I did it because I'm not on enough to take care of the reports. It's close-to-hiatus, except I actually do come on every now and then.
It's not to prevent you from reporting, it is to get you to report to someone who can actually take care of it.

Oh, life can keep you away without school too. I'd know.

Armor Games could have a sort of special group of moderators that works like a real job, it would also be educational, teaching young adults how the real world's job system works.
But moderating is nothing like a real job. >_>

As for new mods, we're always on the look for more. Some will be selected when they are deemed ready. But since the last one was "modified" back in December, I can see why you'd say it.

Anyway, once again we can conclude that moderators have little they can actually do. They cannot change anything on the site, like getting a new logo, not without discussing it. They cannot choose your new armatar and put it on the list (again, staff), they cannot see flagged comments either.
They are like regular users, just with a bigger responsibility and more to do, and the cool functions of "edit title", "delete thread", "lock thread" and "delete post". Oh, and they can ban a member for, what, a week max?
Everything else is the job of the admins, so basically, we should get more admins.
