I like to ponder. A lot. So, I've wondered. Why did they make it that this substance they named "gold" more costly than this substance they name "silver" and why is that more costly than this substance we call "bronze"?
Maybe gold was discovered first, and when they found silver they didn't think it as valuable. If it had been the Silver Rush, rather than the Gold Rush, maybe things would have been different.
I don't know about this, I'm not a miner. But basically when you found a gold when you mine it, you never found 100% gold, it always 'stuck' with other minerals. It is different if you 'mine' the gold in the river bank, they use (the liquid silver in the thermometer, sorry I'm an Indonesian and I don't know the English word for that thing) to separate gold with other minerals.
firetail, your link can't be open? any other similar link? thx
Yes silver is the best conductor but it is also very reactive and corrodes. Thar's why metal contacts are covered with gold. You can see it on your graphics card, modem, processor...
If you have used processors, I would love to buy it for $10-$20 each, I know how to recycle this thing. There is less than 1 gram each processor.

Silver rush is in Bangka island since old age, Indonesia. But it's almost depleted now. Don't drink the water near silver mine, my friends lost all their teeth.
The gold rush is just a name, I'm pretty sure they found silver and bronze too, which leads to a why is silver more expensive than bronze question.
When gold rush come, they find other valuable minerals too. Bronze and silver is not too rare and can be found in many countries, but yes they will be depleted one day, the most rare metal is Palladium.
oops just a lil bit addition, there is 'moving mine' in the sea. We use a special devices to locate it, the mine moves with sea wave. You need to locate and excavate it, it called 'liquid aluminum', but it's not liquid at all, it looks like a rock with the size around your hand.
I'm not sure if this is the most important thing, but silver tarnishes and gold doesn't. That means that gold is longer-lasting than silver.
You need 2000 centigrade heat to melt gold, but silver is around 700 centigrade.

I don't know why, but we go back to year 1000, when people using barter, they use ivory are shining shells to trade with pig or chicken, then they found gold and other valuable metals.
If 'silver' have 'gold' ability, it could be the contrary. World have make this 'gold' expensive for various reasons. What happen when China found 32 gold mine in Tibet? What happen to gold store in Dubai when 90% of their 'opulation' is rich guy instead the local is quite poor.
For thousand of years gold have been 'rise' to high price, gold chunk was used in China for daily trade, at that time people don't really know the exact real price that is so high, they just use it to buy a meal for 5 persons.
Gold have been 'chased' by many countries and it makes war everywhere. First gold rush by European around 1450-1550 to the South Africa, and they found diamonds too.
pssssttt, diamond is not rare, a big company 'you know who' is 'make diamond look rare' so they can keep high price in the market, while local Africans become their slave. European also found Jade and other valuable minerals there. If you are lucky enough, take a walk in a baach, you might found a diamond worth 3 grand.
Um because gold is cooler and silver is less cooler than gold?
For some people gold (70-90 carat) is an ugly jewelry, for others, it makes them 'roud', for some, it makes them 'cool'. Usually teenager using 'white steel' for accessories, it's cool and you can find it everywhere. For some 'moron' they put a big gold necklace with a big pendant and show it to everyone.
Both of them will be 'cooler' if you put them on the fridge for 2 hours.

What is it about its 79 protons, 118 neutrons or its stucture etc. that means it doesn't tarnish, allergies to it are rare (I had heard it was impossoble to be allergic to it) (not so sure now)
allergies to it are rare (I had heard it was impossoble to be allergic to it) (not so sure now)
wow, that! is a new knowledge. Can I get the link?
perhaps a chemical researcher would tell me?
Gold, the shining thing, have been hail like 'Hail, Golder' from every age.
Country who have debts in gold, have to return the debt in gold + interest, because dollar a.k.a paper money is vulnerable and tend to change because of various reasons, unlike gold which more stable. REAL value of MONEY stays in GOLD, not in paper, it's like a country, REAL value of country stays in LAND not the PEOPLE.
It yellower than silver, so its more vivid and less bland? It also sparkles more than silver, and its rarity is much higher. Bronze is, from my prespective, better than silver. It's brown color seems so mellow to me. And what about Platinum? Why is IT priced higher?
Actually there are several kind of 'metal' that are more expensive, but I can't share too much info about this, you know, 'family recipe' like 'KFC recipe' is above TOP SECRET.
"Plan your life, otherwise, other will. You boss, your bad habit, your bad friend will rule over you, over time"
Some people are 'destined' for become a slave, a worker, an employee, a boss? no, I don't believe in such destiny, you just have to get out quickly from your ZOC, Zone of Comfort.
You guys can read many interesting things I Wrote here before, just double check what I say here with someone competent in this 'gold related or mining' field you know that live around you. You can make them say 'Wow, how did you know that?'.
oh mah goodness. we're off topic. ANYWAY, there is more silver around then there is gold. And if i'm correct, There are a lot more stuff, not just metals that are more money than gold. But gold is also in more demand than silver, which means higher price. I don't get that though, i like silver better. Just the looks and shine are AWESOME.
