Yes I've heard of Joss Whedon, I'm actually watching an episode of Buffy as I post this.
Aside from TV and the internet Joss also works on comics. Currently doing his own things as well as Buffy season 8 and overseeing Angel season 6 (Angel: After the Fall now called Angel: Aftermath). He also had a fantastic run with Astonishing X-Men as well as Runaways.
