I'm getting so annoyed by each person I talk to because of my lisp. I got 7 questions to ask you. Please answer them and if you have other stuffs to say, tell me!

1.Having Lisp is normal or not.
2.If its not normal, then globally, how much % of the people has lisp.
3.How do we stop lisping.
4.How do we speak when they have a "s" in a word. I meant about the teeth, lips and tongue.
5.Is it a big problem having lisp?
6.What are the advantages if they have any?
7.Do you laugh at people that lisp?

Please be honest and helpful because I don't like talking much anymore.

5.I don't see any big problem in having a lisp.
6.I can't think of any advantages of having a lisp either...
7.No. It's not funny to me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you, probably just some odd positioning of teeth or something. Dentist/Orthodontist might be able to help.

4.How do we speak when they have a "s" in a word. I meant about the teeth, lips and tongue.

Like how should it all look? Well you should sort of smile, put your tongue in the middle of your mouth right behind your front teen. So that's how it should look.

5.Is it a big problem having lisp?

Don't think so.

7.Do you laugh at people that lisp?

Not just because they have a lisp. But if the person is a jerk and they have a lisp I've been known to imitate them. Not the nicest thing to do, but oh well. As long as you're a nice guy other wise only jerks would make fun of it.

I also have a Lisping problem.
The only answer I know is this one:

6.What are the advantages if they have any?

No.

If you were to go to the extreme you could cut off your tongue.
No more lisp, but you'd still have a speech impediment.
But that would not be the smartest thing to do.
Theres nothing wrong with having a lisp.

1. Having a lisp is normal depending on your definition of normal. Most people don't have one, so I would say no, it's not normal.

2. Beats me. Not a doctor or a scientist that's studying lisps, and I can't be bothered to peruse the internet for facts.

3. Depends on the cause of the lisp? I used to have one, but I went to a language coach in grade... 2 or 3? I had a few sessions & practiced on my own and... it was fixed in like.. a month or two.

4. Too tired to answer this question.

5. That would depend on your definition of a big problem. It's all how you perceive it mate.

6. Advantages of not having a lisp or advantages of having a lisp? Either way, there are some people who may factor it in as ammunition to make fun of you, or take you seriously. Question is, do *you* want to take anyone that makes fun of a lisp seriously?

7. No, I don't, and I don't know anyone that does; though my social circles are usually people that are 25+ years old - undoubtedly that's a contributing factor.

Any ways to stop lisping: Stop talking.

Also, there are courses, at least here in Denmark to provide help to people with speech impairments.

I used to have a problem with something like (or maybe it was, i dont remember) lisps, I went to a speech doctor at my school and even before school for several years, Then doctors figured out that it was something wrong with my hearing so I said it the way it sounded to me, but i was hearing it wrong so i said it wrong.

For saying S sounds, go here and scroll about half way down for a pretty good description, for more just search "how to pronounce S's in English" in a search engine like Google or Bing.

I also think there is nothing wrong with lisping, nobody is perfect and if anyone makes fun of you for it then their opinion is worth nothing because they are just losers that try to make themselves feel better by making others feel worse.

Another kid with a lisp here. I think I can answer some questions...

1. I would say no, generally, people don't have lisps.
2. Someone else said 20%, I'll believe that.
3. Take speech therapy. I, personally, hate speech therapy.
4. No idea.
5. Well, some people are going to judge you, it might be harder to get a job where you have to deal with customers... Yeah, it can be a big deal, I guess.
6. None. Its an impairment, not a super power.
7. Lots of people do laugh at lisps. You need to find a way to deal with it. If people tell you to say words like "car" or "Lets go down to Dari-Mart to get some roder-ruger", than just say "fuck off" and they'll stop in a few months or something, depending on how funny they think it is.

I have a slight lisp. It use to be more noticeable but then I went to a speech coach. I now only have a problem with the letter 'S'.

What asshole thought to put an 's' in lisp?

That is a good point, probably some doctor who didnt have one.

I use to have problems with C's, and S's, and Z's. Tho like I said again, it was due to a hearing problem, so I can say them fine now. Speech Coaches do help though, so i would recommend going to one.

Just try not to talk much, it really has something to do with the size of your tongue and lips though too

Thats a lie. I know kids with both bigger lips and tongues than me, with no lisp at all. And I have one.
