I was lurking through profiles and couple mod's abouts and I noticed there were some merits. Can mods give themselves merits? Would there be anyway to track what comments are meritted to check? I know you're probably going to say *official tone* 'they're smart and mature enough not to' but, who gives mods merits?
They could have gotten the merits before they became moderators, or other moderators could have given them to them.
Hopefully I don't get ninjaed, I was looking for some places in Estel's profile where another mod might have congratulated him on one. Couldn't find anything in last 3 pages though, so I gave up.
Yeah, these mods didn't start out on the site and mod. They probably got them as a regular user. And I don't know, there fellow mods might give them one. But if they did abuse there power like that I would like to see an example. And that is one reason hey got chosen, to be mature.
Okay: Yes. In theory mods can give themselves merits. Would they do it? No, there is plenty of opportunity of users to find out, or other mods (at least if the merit is not deserved).
Now, the merits shown on the profiles are from earlier in their AG history, or because other mods gave it to them, because they made a good review on a game. Simple and easy.
Well, I heard somewhere where other mods give mods a merit. A mod CANNOT give themselves a merit, even though, I believe it is possible.
Again: Theoretically, a mod can give himself/herself a merit, if s/he really wanted, but they do not do so, due to being good mods. And yes, I did ask a mod (Zophia), she says they can.
Well i would believe Cenere and well they wouldnt be mods if they gave themselves merits. I dont think they should be able to give themselves merits, but I think they should be able give other mods merits.
I asked Nemo about it, and he said if a mod gives themselves a merit, they can potentially get demodded when they are caught. The more they did it, the greater the possibility.
I think Strop once said that Moderators make some kind of oath not to give themselves merits, but that tells you that they can indeed have the power to do so, but they will not, and I don't think its worth the risk anyways if they got caught, demodding, and the possibility of getting banned at such a high rank(which most of them are at this point) on top of that. I just don't think it would ever happen and I believe the mods were chosen because they could be trusted not to do things like that.
I doubt that there's an option enabled for mods to give themselves merits, and like someone said earlier, mods are picked for dependability, and how many merits do the mods have? Has anyone checked? If they had an insane amount I might question it, but then you have to look at how long they have been on, and if they were a mod and were picked for decent reviewing as well, then other mods still might be watching for his/her post and seeing whether it's worth another merit.
Mods can techniquely give themselves merits, but like you said, they wouldn't. As for how many they have, I believe Estel has 19. Which is a lot, but I highly doubt he gave then to himself.
And most of you guys aren't really adding new points to this thread, since... Well, we can, we don't, there's not really more to it.
Most of my merits are from winning the ASC, and some of those are from after I was mod'ed. Got them from Strop, I think. And someone saw the last game review I wrote^^ Which I'm just as happy about as when one of you guys get a merit from a game review, 'cause it doesn't happen that often anymore...
