It is called Starsiege: Tribes, made back in 1998.
It is a first person shooter, but with an awesome twist, JETPACKS. Maps were huge, wide open, and hilly. But with jetpacks you could fly into the air, come down and ski down a hill, then rocket off another hill. DOing all of that while at the same time fighting an enemy.
With all the mods this game had, it really had about everything.
-If you have checked out Fallen Empires: Legions, then you now where that game got its inspiration-
I hope there is someone on AG that got to experience this game, but sadly I doubt it.
The problems with Tribes was that they didn't ever get enough hype for it, and they never gave it enough support. But as far as gameplay (Multiplayer) I thought it was near perfect.
Actually it was the gameplay that I liked the least about it. Something didn't 'feel' right in a lot of the guns & character movement.
I was hoping Tribes 2 would have been a significant improvement, but I found the gameplay even worse, which was made *even* worse by the atrocious netcoding.
I'll give you this: the concept design was excellent - and the concept & design is still better then any of the Battlefield/BF clones out there today.
Very few of the games from the 90's are good,I agree that they are not better than any 21st century game, plus I really never liked any old games they are all very bad...
