Recently my sister has been pushing instead of presents... let's go on a cruise or go to Bahamas! Now, me and brother agree that presents are better for long memories than short cruise memories, it would be like taking an illegal drug since you'd have extreme fun for a week but then feel sad because no more fun. The original purpose was The Three Kings giving presents. It is tradition.

Your take?

umm, then stick with the presents.
If your sister has been bugging you and your parents with this idea, then you'll have to let your parents decide.

If you really want to be religious you would just celebrate through thankful worship around Springtime rather than Dec 25.

However, nobody does this, so if you like having your traditional presents then just stick with that.

I'd have to disagree with your initial argument that &quotresents are better for long memories." I only remember a handful of presents I've ever received for Christmas. Presents are fun for only as long as they hold your interest and then you forget about them. I'm also going to assume that you receive presents every year for Christmas and that you also get presents for your birthday. This is going to be several presents a year (at least). How often do you go on cruises? Several times a year? Most likely not. Doing something out of the ordinary is definitely going to leave a life long impact on you. I have remembered every trip I've ever taken with my family and friends. I have my memories and we took pictures as well. Your sister has a great idea.

Lol, why are you bringing this up in the middle of August? Anyway I can see what doth of you are thinking, but in the end, its all up to your parents. Presents would be cheaper, unless you get really expensive presents or its a really cheap cruise.

there are always those presents you forget in a week. i'm talking about expensive presents! i'll have had a PS3 for 3 years this Christmas. an earlier christmas got me into piano (3 yrs quit a year + 1/2 ago) and brother into guitars. bro is a bassist in a band and gots a fretless bass last christmas.

I think it's up to the family. Personally, I'd rather have the presents, but if the family agreed on a cruise then I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't think that Christmas is much of a religious holiday anymore, as even atheists celebrate it.

Well i would stick with the presents. I think your right about presents lasting a longer time, but if you think about it memories are wierd and a picture ells a thousand words. So if you have picture perfect memory then stick with the cruise. Also why does it matter. I thought christmas was about having fun with family and giving not getting. Seriusly why does it matter.

While I do like things that are around for a while, sometimes experiencing something different or unique in itself can be a long lasting great memory, even if the time you spent getting the memory was shorter.

There are quite a few times in my life where I was doing something for a week, or couple of weeks & then it was over, but I have some terribly fond memories of those times.

I would say give it a shot; you never know what you might get out of something until you try it for yourself. Besides, there's always next year to do something more traditional.
