and indians and pakistanis worked together to break the english reign that was over india because the were 1 country then pakistan got independence

Yah... look how great Afghanistan/ Pakistan is doing right now...

Pakistan declaired independance from India because they were too violent. The hate the two religions have for eachother is STILL so bad that durring Ramadan, all non Muslims are beaten in the streets if they are seen durring the day.

India, having the worlds highest populatiion per square mile is NOT something to be proud of.

In contrast I think the Indian religion/ way of life about self improvement is the worlds best and one.... the only one... that I respect.

just because you aren't an indian. we know how it is to live under others. we were mere slaves at that time.

I always hate it when people say stupid shit like this. If you weren't alive, if your parents weren't alive, durring ANY type of Era... YOU HAVE NO IDEA EITHER. This goes for all races that pull this shit. My race was ethnicly cleansed durring WW2 worse than the Jews were, but I don't bring it up in daily conversations :/

@ Ultimatetitan

mahatma gandhi was never a racist. he had adopted south africa as his second home. he treated all the inmates of his jail, whether white or black as his brothers.
he never had sex. he slept with little girls and boys because he loved children. and who hell told you that he gave them enemas?

Never a racist huh?

"Ours is one continued struggle against degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the European, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir, whose occupation is hunting and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with, and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness."

Kaffir being a rather offensiev term to describe black people. This site has a lot of examples of his racism, and includes the proper references to Ghandi's written material.

I didn't say he had sex - I said he slept with girls, and in my original post you'll note that I made a clear differentiation between those things.

Yet, Gandhi, in his old age, regularly slept naked next to young girls, including his nieces, in order, he said, to test his commitment to brahmacharya, or celibacy. No matter how some try to contextualize these actions, from my perspective, he was abusing these girls.

From Peacework Magazine.

This is an article from the Washington Monthly that goes into detail (as did the link from my original post with Ghandi's.. deal with enemas.

Your portrait of Ghandi is common, but not entirely accurate. Was he good for India? Yes. But 'Mahatma' means Sage or person held in the highest esteem for wisdom and saintliness. The truth is, he's only human, just like the rest of us.

as you know mahatama gandhi was against british, this acct was written by british officials in india during war of independence. some of them are given in our book also.

I've provided a source that quotes directly from his own complete works. Perhaps you could provide something that says to the contrary? Otherwise, I'm the only one between the two of us with a written confirmation, and it's purely on your say-so that he never wrote racist remarks (and I don't take things on say-so in a debate)

ok, you yourself said that it was from your prespective. but the intentions of gandhi were not wrong.

That's your opinion. Sleeping with little girls, sex or no - that's pretty screwed up.

you yourself gave the definition of mahatama.

Yes.. straight from a dictionary. Again, I don't think of ritual enemas, sleeping with girls, and being a racist as 'saintly'.

If you think being racist & those other things are saintly... whatever man... that's you're buisness.

I'm not going mad. I barely even care - the only reason why I chimed in is because people (including you) don't have the whole picture. You're seeing all of the good things he did (and he did many, including making Indian independance possible), but no one ever talks about the bad. I decided to bring them up to illuminate anyone who was ignorant of these.. 'hidden' elements of his life.

I didn't think this would turn into a debate about Ghandi, anyway he wasn't perject ut for a lot of people he made things better and thats what I think counts.

it is gandhi not ghandi, fools, learn to spell.

It's a name, and a ton of reference materials including online encyclopedias use 'Ghandi'. You could have just corrected us without being such a rod & slinging an insult, but you know what they say - do unto others. On that note - By the way, it's 'Gandhi', names should be capitalized *fool*; learn proper grammar usage.

some people are turning against gandhi for just silly reasons.

Are you dense? In what way have I 'turned against' Gandhi? In my first post I said:

Please keep in mind, I'm not bashing the things that he managed to accomplish

In my second post I said:

Was he good for India? Yes.

And in my last post I said:

You're seeing all of the good things he did (and he did many, including making Indian independance possible)

Maybe you need to learn how to read too.

*shrugs* I'm not offended in either language.

Funny he says that though; it was my Indian co-worker that actually told me about it.

you have an indain co worker? what is his name?

His traditional name starts with a 'Q'. I don't remember what it is, as he goes by an anglicized moniker - his surname is Rampuri.
