What are you talking about Julius47108?? Switchfoot is still very much a christian band...there meanings are just deeper and their music is more advanced. The have progressed from their simple easy to understand sound...even though Learning to Breath is one of my favorite albums....
Anyway, I consider a christian band singing about christian themes makes it christian music. Therefore you might have some christians playing secular music (manchester orchestra or creed) or you might have both (As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, RED, Switchfoot,etc.) and truly be christian music.
As well, i think something that got lost in this conversation was Praise Music, Gospel, Inspirational, etc. Hillsong/Hillsong United Are simply amazing!! David Crowder is as well...
I judge christian music after i hear it...as such i don't like most contemporary christian music, i like most "christ-core" bands(even though thats such a bs genre title), and theres a mix with the rest...
