Obama did not enact those laws. Mostly, they are state laws. Some of them were enacted decades or even a century ago.

Why does he keep those ridiculous laws then?

I dunno. Many of those laws are not enforced anymore though they were not "officially" repealed.

He has more important things to worry about.

Also, most of those laws are state laws. He is not supposed to handle those laws, someone else is.

That doesn't make any sense to me at all. I'm not an American, so I don't know.

I expected you to not know.

Since those laws only apply to a particular region, the state's/region's government will decide whether to remove the law or not.

It costs removing useless laws, so they just ignore them.

That's a good explanation.

They just ignore them.

you cannot simply ignore laws, even if they are stupid.
well actually you can and should, but dont be surprised if you have to pay a fine for violating one of these laws

I can't imagine a police officer arresting somebody for having sexual relations with a porcupine or for any of the other reasons. I think that the majority of the policemen don't ignore these laws for the simple reason that they don't even knew that they exist.

next time read whole post.
as said before. you can and you do probably ignore a lot of stupid laws. if noone sees it(i hope that sexual realtions happen in your home(according to your example) ) than you get in no trouble.

i also believe that a lot of officers consider the same law as stupid and will ignore it or dont know about it. but if an officer decides to not ignore that law, you could get in some trouble. thats why such stupid laws should be revoked, so that you clearly know what is allowed and what isnt

-Having sexual relations with a porcupine is illegal.

I wonder what's more expensive, medical treatment for persons who sustained injuries while having sexual relations with a porcupine, or the legal processing costs for said people, hahahahahaha.

On the topic, here are some more stupid laws:

I can't remember which state this is in, but it is/was a fineable offence to sport a tent in your pants in public. Fineable in the order of 2000 bucks. Not surprisingly, there was massive public outcry and a campaign to have the law nullified, amidst chants of (I kid you not), "A BONER IS NOT A CRIME".

And the really worrying one- in no less than 29 states, if you are a minor and you engage in sexual acts (consensual or non-consensual) with somebody who is also a minor (even if they're your age), you are required to register as a sex-offender.

The sex-offender registry does not differentiate between this kind of offence and offences such as aggravated rape or child predation and molestation. The consequences include the inability to gain employment with any contact with children and the inability to move within 1000 feet of an establishment known to be the gathering place for children e.g. churches and daycare centres. And public ridicule and random haters/former friends/family members egging your house, bashing you up, sending you death threats, burning down your residence etc.

Is that a stupid law or what!

So please, should you ever consider engaging in sexual relations before the age of 18 or 21, whichever is pertinent in your jurisdiction, check the state laws.
