Hello, I'm J4son, stopping in as usual every few months.

I have a challenge for the likes of you forum mongrels.

Write to one politically important figure and express your opinions on your favorite issue of choice.

Why do this dare? Because expressing it on forums is wonderful, but a real effect of these opinions comes in on letters, emails and phone calls to your Representatives, Special Interest Groups, Political Action Councils, etc.

It's the act of being politically involved that keeps you politically informed! You cannot glance at the news for an hour and gleam the truth. You must depict it, and share it to be written and expressed on larger scales YOURSELF. Only then will you figure out what works.

How the Challenge works?
Well first off, pick a favorite topic, post it here if you feel it need be, then write a letter, choose a political figure, and before sending it via email or printed letter, post it on the forums. There others can either agree, amend, or (unfortunately) disagree with your letter as does politics work.

When you think you have a good idea of what you are speaking about, post the final copy and send it to your political figure.

It's called Amnesty International. I think I've sent...6 letters to political figures?

But they are mostly for the release of Canadians unjustly imprisoned in their jails.

I have. It doesn't do any good, I don't pay taxes because I'm still young. Thus, no one wants to listen.

I personally would love to write to some rep or another about a few million in road repairs here in Houston.

Of course it's not going to work. Politicians don't give a rats' ass.

I've already interacted with my member of parliament. And also, if you want people to participate, maybe you shouldn't call them 'mongrels'?

Just a thought.

Ultimately, most politicians would like to keep their jobs. You BET they're concerned with what you have to say.

The very top ruling members of our society are unfortunately less concerned - once you make it into the inner circle of capitol hill, it's a whole different ball game - but even these folks can't just write off the American people (as things presently are, anyhow).

So send in your letters! Make your calls! I will also add that many issues see much internet activism and there are easy ways to sign online petitions and send emails as well. You have no excuse!

I wrote my state legsislation about smoking tax when I was 15, they raised the tax 5%. I'm proud to have contributed.

'Mongrels' isn't necessarily an insult. I thought of that before posting. I'm not out to insult anyone, just share an idea.

Thanks Twigonometry

'Mongrels' isn't necessarily an insult.

It does have a rather negative stigma though, and most people will likely interpret it as such.

Of the dictionary definitions we have:

a dog of mixed or indeterminate breed.

Not sure how many people would enjoy being called a dog.

any cross between different things, esp. if inharmonious or indiscriminate.

Inharmonious or indiscriminate suggests potential mistakes in production.

any animal or plant resulting from the crossing of different breeds or varieties.

That describes just about anyone. Still, I think if you referred to people as 'mongrel' to their face, you wouldn't have to do it all that long before someone decided to hit you.

Those being literal. I don't call people bitch and expect them to look at me like they're a female dog.

Just calm down, there's no edit button, and otherwise it doesn't really matter. :\\
