Who are they you ask? The Native Americans. There are only a few thousand of them left. When the white settlers first came to North America there was 1 million of them.
Let me ask you this, if you found a purse owned by a woman and the purse and the woman are both in the same room and you find and pick up the purse. You say, "I claim this in the name of my people and my country! The contents of everything inside is now also mine!" Is that right?
No of course not, but we inevitably did the same thing to the Native Americans with their land and people. They helped the pilgrims in their time of need by teaching them how to farm and tend to the land. How did we repay them? Killing them by the thousands.
I think we could have co-existed with them if we were more tolerable in the beginning of our nation's roots. How can we truly call ourselves the "Land of the Free" if we were made and built on injustices like the Native Americans, slavery, and how intolerable we were to woman? Sure we wised up eventually but there is still work to be done with gay rights.
Anyways the theme of this is, do you think America has the right to call itself the "Land of the Free" and how do you feel about the Native American injustice?

I agree with you there, the colonists WEREN'T evil, they were just ignorant... but it was centuries ago what do you expect? Sure, what they did to the Natives was evil, and they probably knew that so no I'm not defending the colonists on this issue if anyone was wondering.

The thing is, it's almost impossible for Natives to even find available jobs little lone get one, and now especially with the economy what else can they do? There was a study done and sorry I don't have a link that states being an alcoholic, if your ancestors were and were heavy enough can actually be in your DNA. which means one sip could get you as hooked as if that one sip was meth.
So if you look back enough this also can be blamed on the colonists because they are the ones who sold them whiskey and booze. And for what? probably stuff much more valuable than that.

I don't think it would either, finding jobs isn't easy, nor is getting hired by one, but just because your heritage is one thing it probably doesn't make it any harder to spot a 'Help Wanted' sign or getting on the computer at the nearest Tech Center and looking up some local job-listings...

Actually it does, if they live on the reservations it does anyway. Look up the episode of "30 days" where this guy lived on a reservation for that long... it's pretty interesting.

I've had several Native American friends, they don't care about the past, their busy with the future! and they got jobs before me so... what can I say? >_< YOU TOOK MY JOB, SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I DON'T LIKE YOU. nope.
I agree with you %100, however I was just stating the injustices of the past for a history debate and also to see how different people think it could have been if they didn't take place.

All I see is people who don't know what they're talking about. You do know that there isn't much work on a reservation, because there isn't much business. Because there isn't much money.
Well did you know that the moment you step off the reservation you lose almost all benefits of being an Aboriginal and you are now on your own for forever. And since the education system on these reservations is horrible, due to the fact that the reservation has no money, since your taxes DO NOT HELP THEM because they receive no money from the government.
So we get uneducated people who try to leave the reservation, lose all benefits that being an Aboriginal could possibly have, trying to get low paying jobs. Most can't go to college/university because they either don't have the $ or don't have the grades because of their horrible education system.
Don't try to sweep it under the rug. We screwed them back then, but we're still screwing them now.
One of the main reasons the white man killed off the Native Americans was because of disease. The common cold. Rhino Virus. Smallpox. The Native American gene pool had never experienced this before. Once europeans were introduced, the natives started to die from the diseases. They were angered by a combination of this and the fact that their land was being stolen, so they started attacking the white people. The white people just said, "hey this is the land of the free for everyone that isn't female, Indian, Black, from any other country, and gay. so pretty much just rich white male land owners." Also, I agree we don't deserve to be free. We are a ruthless, mercyless country. But that is pretty much the only thing we know how to do. Kick people's butts. And boy, do we do it well... NUKE EM! NUKE EM HARD!!!
