I am fed up with this notion that Obama is a socialist. All are people saying to me is "Hey Bob, you're a socialist so you must love Obamunism!".
First I will give a simple definition of socialist economics:
socialism denotes an economic system of state ownership and/or worker ownership of the means of production and distribution
How is Obama a socialist if he is instead taking tax dollars away from the middle class and giving them away to the CEOs that caused the economic crisis we face today? That's almost the exact opposite of socialism; Obama is bailing out the capitalist system, not scrapping it! Bailing out Banks, large companies, and expanding health care is simply not socialism if it's not state owned or collectively owned by the working class. A true socialist would fire the CEOs that caused the problem in the first place and do one of two things: Let worker's unions take over the companies while the workers have a democratic say in which way the company goes (syndicalism/libertarian socialism), OR simply just have the federal government control the company and the wages (authoritarian socialism). Now yes, the government does control 60% of GM and they have fired plenty of people, but that is only because all of that bail out money didn't work and GM filed for bankrupcy anyway. And still, it's 60% of only one car company....

Thank you.

hmm, I wanted to find something I disagreed with but I didn't
And and I'm not saying I think socialism is perfect either people... but if you think Obama is a socialist I think you really should read this.
AND, did you notice that the people protesting health care reform are the people THAT HAVE HEALTH CARE! And yet the people who have NOTHING don't complain whatsoever, as a matter of fact they seem hopeful.
>.> c'mon people what's wrong with socialized health care?? AND, Obama ISN'T MAKING IT MANDATORY FYI, it's just a freaking CHOICE you have and it's mainly there to compete with the private health care companies to make them shape up >.>
I wanted to write the same thing.D: Some persons really think that the worst insult is calling somebody a socialist. They think that when you call somebody a socialist the result will be something like this.
How is Obama a socialist if he is instead taking tax dollars away from the middle class and giving them away to the CEOs that caused the economic crisis we face today?
I don't think he is, but just so you know, socialism isn't spreading from the lower and middle class to the rich; it is taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Of course, that's not all socialism is, but that's why people are saying he's a socialist.

Well the problem with your little rant is that we are not even sure if the health care reform bill is going to have a public option...Obama hasn't been very clear about it in the past. (Probably because he doesn't like being called a socialist.)

Actually he said it would only be a choice in a town hall meeting broadcasted on CNN a few weeks back. And if he was lying, then the bill won't pass and it will still be the rich getting cared for and the poor not getting anything.

Also, I'd like to dispell the idea that a very small public option isn't a government takeover of the health care system after watching the president's speech earlier tonight...nor is having the government pay for medicare or the VA. All Obama wants to do is to initiat a plan that will make it so that all Americans can get some sort of affordable health care coverage under the private health care system....that's not socialism at all.

That and he wants everybody to have the same type of coverage as he does, or any political figure, since he mentioned in the speech that it would be illegal for employers to drop peoples health care plan if they were sick, or if they had not explained a pre-existing disease or illness.
