I know there is a whole section about merits, but when it says have good grammar and punctuation does it mean you can't put texting words? For instance, Lol (I don't care much for that one anyways) or shortening words. Like u instead of you. Would that kind of stuff be considered bad grammar and not merit worth?
I would consider "u" bad grammar, but lol is alright (online) as long as you don't do it too much. It will give the impression of childishness though, so it's up to you if you want to be seen that way.
I was just wondering cause a lot of people like to type fast cause they're used to having to type fast in MMO's. Like btw for by the way. Is that considered bad?

No not at all, as long as you don't over use it. It's okay to use in the forums but not a good idea for writing reviews for merits.
I think lol is ok to use in a merit comment... I seem to remember I have used it at least once (if I recall correctly). But if the comment looks sloppy and disorganised then the mods might overlook it and you won't receive a merit. I think tect speak has got to the point where lol is just about an acceptable way to describe how funny something was. "it made me lol". I also put smileys in mine occasionally. :P
I think they are looking for someone who really tries to give a good review, and it doesn't look like it was written before the person even played the game.
