Obama's speech that just took place a few minutes ago was on the subject of health care. In his speech he clarified some lies and hopefully got rid of some scare tactics. He represented new Republican and Democratic ideas.

I think that his speech made a lot of sense, and the bill is a good idea. Why? Well post what you think and I'll reply.

What do you think of the speech? Do you think the bill is a good idea? Do you think the speech changed any minds?

Also, once it's on the net I will post a link to the speech for you all.

The US defense budget as of 2008 was $623 billion. That equates to slightly more then half of all discretionary spending during that year. It also represents about half of all worldwide spending on defense.

You pay for what you get ie., probably the best armed force in the world, (albeit one of the least cost efficient).

However, I'm quite against Obama trying to pass this legislation now

If he doesn't pass it now, then when will he pass it? He has the momentum now, and since Congress is already in the midst of developing and passing the legislation, having them drop it would make him look fickle in the eyes of U.S. Citizens.

we need to get out of the recession first

Most high-standing economists have agreed that the recession has bottomed out and that we're already on our way to recovery. If anything, instituting these programs now, when revenue will be growing, is the smart move.

. . .and that's why even less people respect you.
Count me as one less from the respecting Krizaz crowd. >.<
Really, insulting someone over their personal opinions is close-minded and makes you look like you deserve to be insulted by Green12324. (D

I should write a biography on you titled: "The twelve year old hippie who is also very very smart." :P

Eh, I don't trust the pirvate industry with this new plan; their main motive is profit, not ethics. I think we should evolve our system in such a way that everyone could get health care no matter what but with very strict government regulations on the private investors and a larger public option. Still, Obama's plan is better than what we have right now.

My main concern is that the government is still unstable monetarily - the unemployment fund is close to bankrupt now, and we should implement this state-by-state at least because some states are simply not ready to implement the plan now.

I didn't say he should drop it, I said that we shouldn't try to push this through quickly. That's really not the same as dropping it altogether, is it?

I'm totally for the bill as a whole, but the timing of it isn't necessarily great. This could be solved by implementing it state-by-state instead of across the whole nation - California and Indiana, for example, are simply not ready to implement the healthcare plan now. Of course, I can't say for sure since I'm not an economist, but I just think that this needs to be implemented slowly and carefully.

i really have no idea how much we are spending on defense, i just know a rich nation with bad defense = take over by other nation.if it's 50% i agree, divert spending but just don't take too much out >_>

No, it's called paranoia. There are other G8 countries, and I don't see them getting attacked. But then again, they don't make enemies like you do.

And it is insane. The money spent on a couple of planes by the U.S is the extent of the entire Canadian armed forces budget.

Mhmmm, the best in the world. I've touched on that before...So how good a job have you done in Iraq and Afghanistan? They aren't that big, but you seem to be having some small problems =P And this is defence not just armed forces.

You are deaming if you think your airports are safe. You can be struck at anytime, but no one does...you're paranoid.

Anyways this is about the health care plan. How can he pay for it? Raise those taxes baby!

Actually, not sure if you were sarcastic or not. However if you weren't he stated that most, if not all of it can be payed for with spending already taking place but in bad places.

If he is ruling your country I would not consider him a communist, especially since he has not done anything that would make him a communist, in fact he has done a lot for capitalism, and you can't be a capitalistic communist.
