I like my music with every type of metal there is. Fucking Metallica is my favorite, after that comes Disturbed and System of a Down, but my friend is dragging me towards Motorhead as well.
What i dont understand is how people enjoy sh*t like Dr. Dre and the Whigger Eminem. Rap promotes drugs, prostituition, disrespect, and all that jazz. It's also horrible music and i cant understand what the hell they mean in their lyrics. At least in metal you dont have to understand the words cuz it's all about the music, not some guy who can't even sing.
sheesh, nothing like voting for the sake of posts. Whether or not that's actually the intention of the two guys above or not I don't know. But posts like that just scream that sentiment out.
Isn't it a thread rule in general that one word posting is either not allowed or extremely frowned upon? Shouldn't there be an explanation or elaboration of choice for votes?
Anyhow, I don't know if I prefer one over the other. There are lots of rap songs I like and there are lots of metal songs I like. If I absolutely had to choose, I guess I'd pick rap in general. There are just some metal bands that I just can't get into, while almost any rapper can put out a song that I can handle.
I have a question. How much time takes the making of a rap "song"? I know how much time takes making METAL. And it's awesome. I think rap takes a couple of days top. And it sucks.
My opinion is Metal. It's not that I hate Rap, but Metal is way better by my opinion. I love the combination of Electric Guitars, Drums and Bass. It's just great. Oh, and Metal isn't screaming. Death Metal is screaming. Other types of Metal like Nu Metal (System of a Down, Linkin Park) includes a very small amount of screaming. Bands like Children of Bodom are a screaming band.
The level of ignorance and immaturity in this thread is astounding. Let's break it down a bit and clear some things up, shall we?
1. Rap ISN'T all about sex, violence and drugs. A lot of rap may be, but there's plenty of rap that isn't. Rap actually started off as a very socially conscious genre, but (as is the fate of many popular music genres) it got commercialized, and a new generation of rappers were made ingrained with the "0mg we'r3 so GHETTOOO!!!1" image and mentality.
2. Metal ISN'T all about satanism, anger and violence. Plenty of metal is actually very melodic and proud (power metal anyone?) and metal contains more literature and intellectual references than ANY other genre of music in existence. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Blind Guardian, Death and many other bands (especially black/death metal bands, which many do not like) contain references and songs about literature, namely Lord of the Rings, Nietzsche, Samuel Coleridge, H.P. Lovecraft and many, many more.
3. Metal has absolutely nothing to do with screamo. Screamo is music for emo kids, you idiots whining about how metal is too angry and too loud and has too much screaming are just as stupid as the ones whining about how rap takes no talent and is just guys re-using beats.
4. Most supporters of "metal" here have named Disturbed, Slipknot and System of a Down as their favorite bands. This is fucking pathetic. Disturbed is hard rock, Slipknot is a fucking MTV cash cow and System of a Down is hardly even original. Have any of you fools ever listened to real metal music? Morbid Angel? Kreator? Mayhem? Surely even a melodic band like Amon Amarth isn't outside of your aural capabilities.
With all that said, I have to name my favorite genre as metal. Rap certainly isn't horrible, but metal is my personal favorite (and it should be, considering I am a metalhead). Some of my favorite bands are Judas Priest, Suffocation, Tyr, Amon Amarth, White Wizzard, Burzum, Nile, Korpiklaani and Megadeth.
