We all know that there is illegal things you can do and piracy of music and movies and the like is just another one of them.

I want to know what your opinions are on piracy. What do you think should be done about it? Should it have harsher laws, after all it is stealing under the law.

We should respect our music artists and the people who go to such hard work to put these things together. Just remember that the ordinary man gets hit every time you download that movie illegally.

So give me your opinions on this matter and whether you disagree on mine.

I disagree completely, I would prefer file sharing decriminalized, in my opinion if its not something tangible you do not own it, not to mention that enforcing anti-piracy laws would be to expensive(mainly time consuming) to be worth it.

I support the Priate party UK and other Pirate partys around europe, also I believe its big companys that lose money from Illegal downloads no the artists.

Ya, I've never seen a study definitively showing that piracy decreases revenue. You figure that the people who pirate a lot generally don't have a lot of money to begin with and probably wouldn't be buying all this stuff if they didn't have access to it through another mean.

Plus I know a lot of people who will download something, and try it out before they buy it, which seems like a good thing for the industry. Because in this case that's piracy directly creating revenue they would be missing.

i want to see the person downloading a game/record or movie and after liking it, to buy it.
why you already have it.

and for the sake of trying something, thats when demos were invented.

well its not that simple. lets assume someone has 50bucks every month.
you could go out and buy one game. or go out or buy clothes or whatever.
when you have the constant and easy possibility to get all the entertainment media for free, the worth of it to you drops, because why would you pay for it if it is free. so you rather spend your money on all the different stuff you need.
and when you started downloading, you get so used to that extra money, you wont buy movies etc. again.

1) I like the collectabilty of ablums, games and movies in their pacakges.

2) Lots of albums come with things like band art and stuff, which makes them really cool

3) Music sounds better on an album

@blue: why bother and download them.
if you want a game play the demo.
if you need a record, listen to it beforehand. most shops i know offer the possibility of listening to records.

and btw. thanks for fixing the link

Actually yea... It is.. Sry drace but this time i have to discredit this response.
First off putting music onto a computer puts the data into a cripted code, which may have to change depending on the download onto a site, or change the speed of the music when burning onto a cd. If you've done it before you'd understand... But it definately changes the quality, and sound of the music played upon the burned cd, or the download onto your computer.

I think non commercial file sharing should be legal, I don't care if some huge companys loses a bit of money while they make their artists do other things to make money.
