Alright, I'm starting to get po'd about the situation in Canada right now.

We are on the verge of our 2nd election in 14 months, because in our country, if the parliament reaches a vote of non-confidence in the current leading party, then we get to have an election all over again. I like the American way of giving the leader that guaranteed 4 year term.

This is likely to happen friday.

And in between these two elections is the strangest thing of all. The three major parties who were not in power (Bloc Quebecois, New Democratic Party, Liberal) all designed a coalition government, they proposed that their 3 parties band together and add all their votes to form government rather than the party which took the most seats but not more than 50% of them. THEY WEREN'T ELECTED!! They proposed they just plain, take over.

I am tired of this. It is all evidence that in a multi-party system, a majority government by any party is better than a minority government. Because minority governments can just be ousted as the other parties can add all their votes out and easily get the ruling party out of power...

*sigh*

Btw, that whole "buy American" thing

What the hell do we make? All our real manufacturing is in China where the labor is cheap. Although we do have our ipods!

well that may be true for everything you buy at wal-mart (which is my least favorite store in the world and I would burn them all to the ground if I could), but there are still American car companies and stuff....... aaaaaaaaaaaand..... huh..... fck.

Well there are a couple of things you've screwed us on =P

1) Softwood Lumber. You've heard of North American Free Trade Agreement? Let's just say, when Bush was in power, he refused to pay us millions of dollars we deserved. It has been through courts many times, all ruling in our favor. Still don't have that money...

2) Well we are a resource based economy, we sell our resources to you, that's basically our whole economy right there. Problem is your government is imposing tariffs on the stuff we are exporting making it more expensive then the stuff found in America (lumber, steel) so less American companies are buying our resources.

wtf is a broo-ha-ha??? lol, seriously what is it?

A broo-ha-ha is sort of a fight, scuffle. If you watch hockey in Canada they'll be all like, "And now we've got a bit of a broo-ha-ha at center ice."

Lame explanation. It's not really a fight, more of a big thing. Like something going on. It's actually hard to explain if I take the fighting example out of it.

A big deal? Yeah I think that wold be a good translation.

Would you vote for A coalition government made up of the Bloc, the NDP and the liberals led by Ignatief?

No.

For starters, one of the things I like about having a multi-party system is that you have many choices with regards to what political or ideological affiliation you can go with. Mashing parties together for the sole purpose of ousting the conservative government isn't going to be good for any of those parties because in the end, it's compromising their ideals for control of parliament - however control of parliament is going to sacrifice what they all individually stand for; even if there's some common ground between them.

Second, I hate the Bloc; I dislike the current Liberal party (Ignatief is a douche), and I have never liked the NDP. I lived through 2 NDP provincial governments in Ontario and B.C. - both of them completely sabotaged the local economies for the duration of their stay in office.

On the note as well, given the world economic climate - I think the current parliament is working rather well in terms of keeping Canada in a stronger economic position, and I feel that continuity in the conservative's leadership in parliament will help maintain, or improve that position.

Why?

Ignatief is a douche

Agreed.

I have never liked the NDP

I agree with all their ideals, but the people in the party are idiots. The NDP in BC are opposing the HST...WHAT?!?! They are a more socialist party!!! If they were in power they would want the more $ to throw around BECAUSE that is what a more socialist party does!!!

That said, I don't know what province you live in but are you a fan of the HST?

In BC we are about to introduce it.

I love taxes Because veryone whines "more money for this! well why are you taking money from this? more moeny for this!"

Face it! How do you expect them to pay for these things when you don't want to give them the money?

I think the current parliament is working rather well in terms of keeping Canada in a stronger economic position

Also agreed. But...it's just that I don't agree with the fundamentals of their party.

The party frequently works an agenda which attempts to compromise the stability of the country. Also, they're entirely self-serving as a party & do not have a federally based view; it's all about their own province. It would be like Alberta having an Alberta party and then lobbying to keep all of their oil in-province, or B.C. having a party completely focused on B.C.

That kind of behaviour is fine at a provincial level, but I don't feel it has a place in Federal politics.

That said, I don't know what province you live in but are you a fan of the HST?

I live in B.C. - and yeah, from what I've read about the HST, it seems like it makes a certain kind of sense. And I also agree with your other point - people want programs & services made available from the government, but you have to pay for them somehow, and that means taxes.

The issue with more taxes though inevitably becomes that you don't want or feel like the public would benefit from the program and you don't want to have to pay for it.
