in my opinion i think that carlos santana is the best guitarist of all time. who agrees w me and who thinks that someone else is better? and explain y.
I love Dave Mustaine, Dimebag Darrel, Jimi Hendrix, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Joe Satriani... and there are more, but I can't remember. But the best, I don't have a clue...
Everybody is saying Slash because they've seen him in GH 3. As for my favourite guitarist, there are so many to choose from. In my opinion, the most skilled guitarist is Al Di Meola, especially in his album with Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin.
I am not choosing Slash because of GH3. I have actually been a fan of Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver, and I just think he is amazing. The guy from Dragonforce isn't actually that good. He messes up constantly while playing live. I also think Michael Padget of Bullet for my Valentine is very talented.
he isnt in a band or anything, and its probably fake, but has anyone seen the movie on youtube called "guitar"? that guys good. its got over 40 million views that movie.
1.Alex Pareja-The number 12 looks like you.look em up. 2.Steve Jones-the faceless, look at my number one fave song in my about...and santana is great as well.
Who'd of thunk it, a bunch of unlearned fools in the music world write down Herman Li and Slash...Herman Li can't play what is on the CD, everything is sped-up on the CD, hence why he's shit live. Slash, really isn't that good...i mean he's ok...but there is a list miles long of people who are more influential and/or more talented.
For me my favorite will forever be: John Petrucci, for his work with LTE and for the solo off the "once in a LiveTime" album, go listen to it, NOW if you can. As for most talented, thats iffy, it could be argued that JP is actually the most talented, but there is also Ron Jarzombyek or Jason Becker both of which are gods on the geetar. So, one of those three fo me.
1.Joe Walsh - This man is so underrated. from his earliest days with the James Gang, to his smash solo career, to his current work with the Eagles, Joe can be noted for influencing a new generation of guitarists in many different genres.
2.Jimmy Page - Not just for his solos, but also for his inventive guitar riffs, whether they were acoustic or electric. Page is probably one of the most copied guitarists in the history of ever.
3.Mick Jones - For his balance of fast-paced soloing, to his rhythmic, explosive guitar riffs, the principle member of 70's rock group Foreigner gets commendation. What's not to get?!
This list is a little different, half of you kids here probably don't even know who Joe Walsh or Mick Jones are, though.
Well.. I find it personally difficult to really quantify the greatest guitarist. I mean, the typical legends that we consider, such as Clapton, or BB King, or Hendrix, often say/said that they had major influences that defined who they were.
I mean in spite of all his on stage craziness and guitar antics, the stuff that hendrix was doing was well being done by people like Chuck Berry, Buddy Guy, and T-Bone Walker YEARS before hendrix came onstage.
Id have to say that my all time guitarist would be Chuck Berry, because of his incredible perfection in terms of guitar playing and what he did for music.
I agree partially with eyetwitch in saying that Herman Li and Slash really are not anywhere near the greatest guitarists. Quite frankly, this does not necesarrily apply to everyone, but a lot of people only say that they think Slash or Herman Li are the greatest because of GH3, or the popularity this has gained guitarists. Also, I'm surprised no one has noted Kirk Hammet. In my opinion, I would say Page. He played the guitar like it was part of him, a mere extension of his body. This is something you just don't see in today's musicians, which is truly sad.
