First, before you all go and join, let me make one thing clear. This is not going to be like regular RPGs. It is going to be very in-depth, complex, and difficult, and you will not be given options, but instead given a scenario in literal story form. You will then choose your actions and write them in story form(it could possibly be compared to the Way of Moderation, but that comparison is rather ungainly, seeing as to how I decide exactly what happens to you, you just write what you do), but be careful. Those who play the Mystery Game must be cautious. If you die, you're dead and you can't comment on the thread anymore. I recommend that everyone who decides to participate has a fair modicum of intelligence; otherwise you would likely be lost and confused, thus not having any fun in the Mystery Game.
A wealthy politician named Chad Forbes has disappeared mysteriously. But that's not news; he's been missing for a decade without a trace. Long ago, the police declared him dead and gave up on the search. So it comes to a shock to you all when you're told to go to a mysterious mansion in the middle of nowhere, with the explanation that this will be a memorial for Mr. Forbes. But when the people arrive, they realize that everyone there had some sort of connection to Forbes; whether it is that they were friends, family, rivals, or even detectives who worked on the case. The next thing you know, locks and bars are secured on every possible exit out of the house by some sort of mechanism...or an unseen malicious observer. An intercom message (possibly prerecorded, but perhaps live as well) then blares throughout the house.
"Welcome to the Mystery Game, ladies and gentlemen. As you may have noticed, you are all locked into the house and may not leave. That is, until one of you win the Mystery Game. The winner will not only allow his or her fellow gamers trapped in the house to retain their lives and go free, they will win all the belongings of our gracious host; Mr. Chad Forbes. The goal of the Mystery Game is to solve the mystery surrounding the late Mr. Forbes' death using clues concealed both within this very house and in your opponents. But beware; nothing is what it may seem! With that said, I bid you good night and good luck."
Then the speaker stops abruptly.
Now it's your turn. I urge you to make your character sheet as in-depth as possible, as it will make things much easier for me.

Name: Anything
Age: Anything reasonable.
Gender: Male or female. Simple.
Occupation: Anything you can think of.
Personality: Here is where the in-depthness really comes in handy for me. And please try to stay loyal to this throughout the game. Just about anything you think fits under the tagline Personality, you put here.
Background: Again, very important. This must also include, in vivid detail, your relation to Mr. Forbes, whatever it may be. Let your imagination abound.
Skills: Whatever you are good at. Please, PLEASE, no Mary Sues.
Weaknesses: Whatever your character is bad at. Again, hear my plea that you do not make a Mary Sue. I will not accept your character if you do.
Items: None

Note that there is no health, energy, thirst, hunger, etc. listing. These will be described to you in the story I write for you; so pay rapt attention to your tale, or you may end up fainting! Note that I will scrutinize your entry before allowing you to join, so please follow my instructions and make a descriptive and realistic character.
If you completely understood this entire OP, then you have successfully passed my first test for you! You did not need to pass it to join, but if you did not understand it, then you will likely not survive for long in the Mystery Game.
I will be accepting 6 characters. Rest assured that no player character will be the murderer.
So let it begin.

MOAT! MOAT! MOATMOATMOATMOATMOATMOATMOAT! JOOOOOOONNNNNAAAAATTTTHHHHAAAAANNNN!!!!!

Name: Gerard Spencer
Occupation: Police consultant
Age: 27
Personality: Not particularly diligent, and generally enjoys vacation more than work. He can be very sly when trying to drag out information and is an inquisitive man. He is fairly intelligent. He likes to get every detail possible about any given case before acting upon it and doesn't allow any loose ends. Can be a jokester, but is very serious when it comes to serious matters; does not stand for disrespect for the dead.
Background: He has worked for his local police department for just under 5 years. His father worked on the original Forbes case, but found no evidence and never found his killer. Other than that, he had no direct connections with Forbes.
Skills: Fairly observant, able to piece together relatively unconnected pieces of evidence with ease.
Weaknesses: Kryptonite. Just kidding, he isn't that focused.
Items: None.

I hope it's in order.

I think that means you're glad I informed you of the thread's existence?

Great.
I may have to...lower the six person quota, seeing as to how you're the only one who has applied.
But you're in. Detective Manta is on the case!

Ahmm....
Do you know anyone who does?
I bet Jess does. Or Tussla Coil.
I need at least three players. Otherwise, what kind of competition would it be?

Nicho's no longer active.

Besides that, I don't think he ever read my story.

Still working on the characters and the plot.
Is TSL interested in joining?

Pacora, I have a few slight(but easily remedied) problems.
The personality is a bit too short, Forbes' death was never actually confirmed, and your grammar and spelling leaves something to be desired.
But fix that, and you're in.

Ahm...let's seee...
A lot of the stuff you put under Personality would actually go under Background. Like the past relationship with the redhead nurse.
An example of a good Personality for that might be...
"He doesn't really trust anyone"
Or
"He is cold and aloof a lot of the time, because of the relationship with the nurse."
And that's not actually how you folks are sent to the mansion. You're given a card and told to go there, and you go.
Ah well,at least this gives me time to tweak the story.

Yes Pacora and Balerion, that looks good.
I thank you for putting time and effort into your character, and not getting frustrated, Pacora.
OK.
Now you all know the details.
There is one extra rule that I cannot possibly stress enough.
DO NOT LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLES' RESPONSES.
You should not know or utilize knowledge that your character does not have. Do not look at other peoples' responses.

I'll wait for a little while longer to tweak my story and characters and also to give others a chance to join.
Thank you all for joining the Mystery Game.

YAAAAAAY!

Poison told me he'd be joining later, by the way.

And on that note, one little tweak to my characters skills and weaknesses...

Skills: Fairly observant, able to piece together relatively unconnected pieces of evidence with ease, good at dragging information out of people.
Weaknesses: Kryptonite. Just kidding, he isn't that focused and doesn't like to work on cases that aren't of any direct interest to him.
Items: None.

That'll be all.
