But u or no u, you all believe in it. I hear this all the time about how me and other members get "special treatment", or that some things people get in trouble for we don't, just because the mods like us better. Now I am here to debunk a few things. But I am just going to deal with me, and not others, cause I can't speak for others.
I do things others would get banned for. There is no real way to go around that because it's true, but it's not because they prefer me, or that they randomly decided that I don't get banned for this. Although they do prefer me to everyone else(who doesn't), it really has no bearing on who they ban/get in trouble.
Mods are chosen for a reason, they make judgment calls on who gets banned for what, and they, when the time comes, make the right calls. They aren't made mod because they like someone and won't ban them, because if I don't get in trouble for posts because of favoritism, that would mean all the mods love me equally and none want me to get in trouble for my work, which is definitely not the case. Trust me.
"So!" Some of you are asking, "whats going on dog?"
Well I will tell you! One factor is seniority. Most people who make inappropriate comments and get in trouble are new. You are new and meeting people, so how do you do it? You make a joke that would otherwise be a terrible idea! How do you expect it to go off well. You don't go to a new job and yell obscenities, or go to a new school and say dumb shit to everyone, including the teachers... just no.
It also has to do with familiarity, which ties in again with seniority. I have been here a long time, and we become good friends. Now the thing is, after being around so long people expect so much from me, it's normal, it's how I am. But that's not just it, think of AG as a black friend, or jewish, or whatever. When you have been friends for a long time, inappropriate jokes become normal. When you have been friends long enough, you can say things like nword or make jokes about a jewish friends cheapness, because they know you are joking, and you've been friends long enough that its ok. You don't just make a black friend and start calling them nword and saying "you love watermelon and chicken!". You just don't. So think of AG as your black friend and wait a while before cracking out stupid stuff.
Also, it has to do with the good stuff you have done for the site. Although I am ridiculously inappropriate, I do try and help the forums when I can. Not all my posts are bad, I make attempts to make good ones and help. Such as in the S&S forum, and these help. Because if you actually make good posts more often, when you say something inappropriate, it might get looked over because of all the good you have done.
Anyways, I am watching Conan and not really paying attention to what I am writing and I actually want to watch, so I won't go into more detail. You get it.
It's always fun reading some of Klaus's egotistical comments.
And why are we all talking about our first 7 posts? I don't think that's what this topic was meant to be about. But yeah, I agree for the most part. But it also has to do with how you word your posts/ your choice of language.

Two or three posts after the OP Klaus mentioned that the first impression is made in seven seconds irl, and, on the forums, it would the first seven posts.
Well, Klaus, if they don't love you, they love to hate you...

I know that... I was wondering how things got so off-topic from such a good OP :/

Because people do not want to write long replies to the OP, when they instead can verify that they are good members as they made their posts there and there.
Anyway, often it is not as much the first impression in general as the first impression that actually impresses you (on the internet). Mainly because few read a post that is not directly linked to their own post (by quoting), or on their thread. A user can be a very good poster, and have all the right answers, but they can still be jerks when it comes to arguments, comments and one on one encounters.

I don't think it really matters where you made your posts. It's the quality of the posts you made that counts. (if sarcasm if present, ignore everything I just said, as I couldn't detect it on the internet for my life, unless its blatantly obvious :/)

Not so much sarcasm as simple "This is what they do, but who really cares..." All in all, I agree to the quality over location.
That's the worst part about debates on AG.
Debates are usually best done with no more than three participants, and done without ninjaing. The debates in the forums are usually made up by people who care to discuss this, and people who want to state their opinion whatever and whenever they like.
Well, Klaus, if they don't love you, they love to hate you...
Amen. T_T
But yeah, arguments are best done when people understand that no matter what they probably won't change their opponents views and it is merely an exercise of trying to understand another man's point of view instead of proving him wrong downright. Instead of proving him wrong, show him how to improve on his views. Unfortunately people don't get this.
Notice how I only bump back my own threads? I am so selfish.
