Well I have been browsing through the forums lately, and I have seen a lot of posts saying they hate America, The USA sucks, yadda yadda yadda. Here is what I have found just in a 2 minute period of time.
Personally I don't think USA is the best country, but the worse!
I hate most Americans.
They are racists
Their goverment is awfull
I don't like all americans.
america sucks
Now thats just me scavenging over a 2 minute time span. Imagine a 5 minute time span. That would insanity. Anyway, when I joined AG everybody seemed nice and friendly. Now I just don't feel comfortable here anymore. I will warn you. The site is half American right? So if you guys keep this up, you will lose a lot of popularity. Discuss?
ok ill give you all that but I'm American I never really talk about it like that. Yeah I'm proud of my country but I don't constantly show off and talk about other countries like that.
Well, most of those comments came from the "which country is the best" thread. So naturally people are going to say they hate the most powerful nation in the world in that type of internet discussion.
It's kind of like hating the Yankees or Manchester United. They are so powerful and win all the time, I can't help but hate them. I don't really hate them, but it's fun to pretend
People have certain stereotypes when it comes to other countries, which often colours the way they look at those countries. Most here (besides the Americans, which is the major part of the users) have never been in the US, and thus base their opinion on what they hear through the media. This usually means this: "Bush declares war against Iraq/Afghanistan" "Huge economic crisis in the US" and so on. Even when it comes to the internet it is easy to dislike. Some Americans (just like any other citizen of the world) acts like the world is their back yard ((C) Zophia), and that whatever they do is the right, and because there are a huge amount of Americans on this site as well as on the internet itself, it is easier to make the stereotype that "Americans know nothing and are simply show offs".
Whether stereotypes are right or not, they will have a huge impression on people and how they look at others.
Also agreeing with Thelistman: We cannot help but dislike the strongest and most powerful. Because we want to be just that.
The most important thing that you learn in the first/seconf grades is to be patriotic, meaning hating all others. I point out that this is not the only factor. and what you said with the steriotipes was right.
I am not jealous. No, I pity them. They force democracy. Many are so patriotic they are blind to the problems the country faces. Many hate communism to much that they don't even understand it. Crime is everywhere. I find the morals of most twisted beyond recognition. There are many more racist, bible thumping, haters then in Canada.
But then again, these are only true to some extent. There are many people who defy these stereotypes. But unfortunately they don't draw as much attention as those I mentioned above.
