So i awoke this morning from a semi-regular dream of zombies and nukes, which usually at least brings a flicker of a smile when i wake up and think about it. Instead this morning i remembered something, ironically enough, I had said in the dream in question. After an hour or so this morning of walking around considering the dream it hit me like a brink wall. What if this is as so many times before in history, a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am aware that i am not alone in this near obsession with a fictional environment, and if this stands true to the themes humans of our short existence here, does it not seem like we might seek out this fallout inspired wasteland or launch a nuke, just for fun?

I often have dreams where I am involved in a bombing. Usually I live miraculously, but I have died a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if we all get killed because the government's irresponsibility. Not getting public health care through fast enough is one thing, but putting everyone in the United States in danger is another. I'm satisfied with the government right now, but I don't really trust my life with any form of government.

Uh, no. What's fun about a harsh, irradiated, inhospitable environment? That's like saying you would want to be mangled by a shark because you think sharks are cool. There's a little thing called logic man, maybe you should try it some time.

There have been a lot of prophecies about the apocalypse already. Countless of their dates have come and past, but none of them have been these 'self-fulfilling prophecies'.

In short, it's malarkey.

Nuclear War: Not in my life.
Global Warming: Not in my life.
Pandemic: Not in my life.
Starvation: Not in my life.

So as far as I'm concerned, I'm good.

Honestly, my mind is highly rooted in science so i by no means expect zombies to rise up or anything asinine like that. I am more speaking on the fact that there is a large number of people in the population of the world who have become complacent and bored with the lego based existence we have carved out of the utopia we were given. From all walks of life and all edges of the world people have time and time again realized that we are quickly ending our own existence. Even starting in roman times the mythology has lead to many large wars and other evil acts, for instance the first punic war was likely rooted in a set of folkloric stories written by a roman man.

I wouldn't call first world countries a 'utopia' much less all of the others. Where are you getting the information to base this statement on?

And yet, we're still here - so this realization that we are ending our own existence; much less quickly, is false. We don't have any reason to believe otherwise with regards to today's problems.

Utopia is a useless word and i shouldn't have used it, it was more of a perspective based rhetoric. That's how people with this sort of complex view the possible.

Its understandable you took that like that, im more interested in the concept of how the simple folk stories effect our future. Would we not all be a little better off if the bible didn't say that god is going to come back as a lion and uppercut humanity?

Ah, well if you put it that way I would say unequivocally yes.

I don't think it will have a significant impact on the future of the species, but we would be better off without all the fruitless doomsaying.
