Mario is Italian and beats the crap out a bowser to save a princess the is twice as tall as him.

I would chose whoever is the most adaptable. giver mario the master sword and link a fire flower, and, in the end, mario is still way better out of his element. why? Imagine mario in Link's outfit, riding a yoshi with the master sword held high. EPIC IMAGE.

It depends on your point of view. Mario is a light, fun platformer. Zelda is a challenge, a bit harder with puzzles, but equally enjoyable.
