As all older users know, Support and Suggestion is a great place to ask and debate about your ideas and beliefs on what should be done on Armorgames. Two topics though, have come up very often and really have to be sorted out for once and all. They are topics that almost every newbie asks the first time they go on the forum. Although it is not the fault of their own, all the threads about these topics are locked or answered the same ay and then locked.

These topics are:

Badges (Or Achievements)
Chat (Or Chatroom)

Because it is very tiring for mods and other people to repeat themselves over and over again, this thread will answer why these ideas will not be implemented in the near future of AG.

Badges (Or Achievements)

Many newbies come from Kongregate, a gaming site very close to Armorgames. It is very popular to a very cool, and entertaining feature they have: Badges in games. Signed in users on Kong play a a game, and if they achieve something in it (Say, a highscore, or completing the game) you receive points. It is a fun because you can play while still making points. For this reason, many users coming from Kong have wanted to see the feature implemented here.

Unfortunately, it won't, and these are the reasons:

Plagiarizing or copying: As many users that will come to AG because we add the function, just as many will leave. Many gamers feel a small sense of loyalty to a favorite site they have. Imagine if suddenly Armorgames 'copied' the idea from Kong. The Kong users on here would get either very upset and leave, or flame the site that we are 'copy-cats' and 'idea stealers', to put it mildly. We don't want that: AG should be proud to have an exceedingly safe and flame-free environment, thanks to the hard work of the mods and admins. We want to keep it that way, and rather have a small, friendly community, than a large, divided community where half the people flame or spam AG.

Integrating the Idea: The badges function of Kong was made possible through the chat box. It is a very smart piece of coding that has made it somewhat easier for Kong to add new features to its site, like yes, badges, but also leaderboards and descriptions of the game and the author. AG does not have a chat box. Therefore, they would have to either make their own hat box (Copying the idea from Kong) or create their own badges system (Which would probably take a long time to code). Either way, it would take weeks, if not months, before we even saw the function. And although I'm not sure, it may cause possible lag.

Now to the next topic:

Chat (or chatroom)

Chatting has become one of the internet's greatest socializing tools, ranking right next to email. Chatting is popular because it is very easy to use, and you can talk in real time with another (Or others) person (Or people).

In fact, as Ag was young, the idea must have appealed to the admins as well, because believe it or not, there actually used to be a chatroom here (Emphasizes on 'used to be'. It was a very popular feature among users, but unfortunately it was abused, and this led to its downfall:

Flaming, trolling and spamming: Yes, this feature was abused in many ways. Although I myself wasn't there, and even many of the older users as well, the message was clear why it was taken down: Just like in many chatrooms, flaming could not be controlled. After all, a mod is not on at all times, and swear filters can take out some vulgar words, but not improvised ones and it cannot stop bullying (Or trolling). Chatrooms can also be easily spammed (Just try typing 'A' 100 times), and they can be spammed very quickly in unison. Even if two people were having an appropriate conversation, one spammer or flamer could break it up by extended flaming or spamming so that normal messages couldn't be easily found again. At some point, flaming and spamming must have become such an issue, that the chatroom was considered to harm more than help the site, and thus, taken down.

It will not be returned to the site for this reason. There is though, an unofficial chatroom, which can be found here. It is usually empty though and not related to the site.

I hope this explains much about these two topics!

Uhhh... there is absolutely no good place to do that which is why I've have a lot of suggestions posted directly to mods about a special... &quotrivate system" is all I am saying.. but yeah, don't lie to yourself S&S is terrible.

The Kong users on here would get either very upset and leave, or flame the site that we are 'copy-cats' and 'idea stealers', to put it mildly.

No they wouldn't? That isn't really why AG doesn't do it at all, in any way.

Plagiarizing or copying:

You barely talk about actual plagiarism, and when I say barely I actually mean not at all. Good thing or else I would have called you out on the fact that plagiarism deals with something of more of a legal matter, which would not be the case, because it's not plagiarism. Newgrounds started doing it(even better than kongregate, I might add) and they haven't done anything, nor has anyone spammed.

Integrating the Idea: The badges function of Kong was made possible through the chat box.

No it's not, a badge system is not dependent on a chat box, it just facilitates it.

Your points make no sense. AG doesn't do it because they are afraid of how long it will take. If they lived like that they wouldn't have created something like, oh, I don't know, the rank system?!
You want to know the real reason why they don't do it? Because AG wants to pride itself on it's own achievements and originality, not make every single site on flash games the exact same. By not doing this and trying other things AG is trying to keep a spark of originality on the site that most others don't have.

It is usually empty though and not related to the site.

Empty? I usually have 2-4 people on their daily still even if I don't log on for some strange reason, hardly call that empty! Rest of stuff on chatroom is fine.

The badges work through the chat. The chat box is like a multi function tool, with endless possibilities.

Fine, if you hate this so much, get it locked.

But thanks for pointing out the flaws. Maybe I should just have written 'We won't be getting these features because we won't' or something like that.

My definition of 'empty' is when 10 users get on a day. Less than that is 'Zero matter'. And I don't see how likely it would be for those 4 people to get on at the same time.

At least you didn't find any flaws with the chat stuff...
