According to this article, there is a good chance that life was formed from a rock, and not a 'rimordial soup' of various chemicals. I think this is not only a brilliant theory but a viable and exciting one. Thoughts?
It's usually regarded that life first began from chemicals floating around in the ancient sea hence "Primordial Soup" and that radiation from the sun provided the necessary energy. This theory suggests that instead porous rock acted as a type of incubator and concentrating and even providing the chemicals needed to form life, fueled not by sun light but by thermal heat.
It sounds like a plausible method, I would like to see more experimentation on this.
