I used to play it, but I traded in the piano for guitar. Playing piano makes you a better guitar player, because it helps you build up your finger speed.
I might start playing as a Jazz Pianist in my school's Jazz Band. I need to ask my band director first though.
Doubtful if you've only been playing for around a year. I've been playing for around 6 or something, and some of that stuff is too hard for me. Then again, it depends on how difficult the music your director chose is. Might as well ask.

Actually, my band director is real cool about it, so he doesn't mind about having to teach me. Plus, next year we won't have a Pianist so... What are his options, right? :P
