I'm new to these Forums and Stop Motion in general. Here to get some of your opinions!
Basically i thought i'd try my hand at a Clay Animation. It's very short, being my first attempt i was mainly trying to get a bit of basic experience so i can undertake larger projects.
You can view it here; [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnYPsbPoK-4]

Excellent, I have to say. I like how you carved the creature, it was highly detailed, altough it is too short. It looks like ET or soething. I couldn't understand the story of it, anyway. Pretty good, though, and I can't believe that's your FIRST movie with claymation.
It looks good but it could improve if you sync it better with the music. It looks like you tried but it breaks down at about 14 seconds. And then it almost happens again. Look at 19 seconds. There's like a drum beat that's early...just before Dr. Jekyll focuses in on Mr. Hyde. That moment when he sees him should have been right on the beat with the drums just as we see Mr.Hyde on the table.
If you go with longer videos then I'd say not to be afraid to extend your fade-in fade-outs. In this one, Dr. Jekyll loses conscieusness. Well, why not take us there, into his darkness. Then we would experience his confusion. You could then go to the next action segment, timing its fade-in with the music, just varying the length of darkness in between to help you sync it. So don't be afraid to use the 'nothingness' as part of your claymation instead of just as a separation.
I also thought the motion of the head and arms needed some differences in pace form each other. You know, if he swats a fly his arm will go faster than when it reaches up to his head when he's feeling sick or whatever. I thought Mr.Hyde's head moved faster at the end so maybe this is just something I see from such a quick show. But if you extend this one, then maybe you could film some friends to act out a scene and just study how fast the different parts of them move around like that!
That's some great feedback you've just given, sir. I'll try to apply some of those techniques.
The main problem with this one was the 10 second limit like most people have pointed out. I would have loved to have been able to make the fades softer in areas like you said.
And i can see what you mean about the music timing. You have a good eye for detail.. or ears in this case. It was my first time using the editing program Adobe Premiere, so i struggled a bit in that regard.
I have a tendency for either choosing the wrong songs, or not knowing where to speed up / slow down the animation for it to sync with the music well.
Hi and Welcome to the ArmorGames Art Community, where most of us are nutters.
At the moment, a fair few of our regulars are doing NaNoWriMo, so this section is more dead than usual. Usually we are active and spreading the insanity of art. Trust me, we're all crazy.
I run the Animation Contest , which sadly doesn't get enough attention as it should, due to there not being that many animators here.
Your Claymation is good, very short and slightly storyless. It is obvious that you put a lot of effort into it. The effects look very good as does the detail on the characters.
To me it seems like a lot of work for such a short animation.
Keep up the good work and WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY!
