The aim of the game is to amass the most treasure. If you can takeover an island then you gain the benefit of their economy, but can also suffer from it. Pirates dead long ago have left treasure scattered all over the isles and it is up to you to collect it all.
You both start out within the city of St. Blair. The port is bursting to seams with ships, safe from the pirate scourge. Warships circle the island driving off anyone trying to smuggle in contraband goods. The nearest shops are a grocery where credit is available, a tavern where it is not, a mapmaker who always needs scouts to bring back tales of new locations, and the local shipwrights.
Captain Maximilian, the old mapmaker creaks out of his store and approaches you with a gleam in his eye. He asks if you would be interested in trying to discover the location of any currently unmapped regions.
