A lot of people say they hate rap, without ever listing to it. And no, I'm not talking about the music that plays on radios today and whatnot. I'm talking about the old school, 90's music. A lot of that music was not about drugs, money and sex. But more so about the current events in their lives and or the people around the world.
Rappers like Tupac, who showed love to their mothers and whatnot with tracks like "Deer Mama" in which he basically thanked his mother for taking care of him, all on her own. And "Gotta Keep ya head up", where he asks the woman to forgive the men, for their mistakes. Where as, he asks them to not live in regret, where they (Woman) need to be strong and independent from men. And, he also asks the guys, to be more caring of their woman.
And not only this, but his rhyme and beat, vocals and passion went deep. He cared about the music. He didn't repeat some idiotic word that had no meaning in it whatsoever, His music had a sense of education about the world and how it worked(s). Many people look at Rap from todays rappers, who pretty much taint the image with the drugs and sex image. But, they need to step back, and listen to the old school stuff. Where rapping was about the words, and not the image. Words, where as the more intense they were, the more intense your rap was.
Meaning was what rap was about.
**Note***
They still had music about drungs and whatnot, but it was more so imagary, where they explained that they had that all their lives, and grew up in the stuff. Not someone who became a 'gangsta' as soon as they became big etc.
And no, I'm not talking about the music that plays on radios today and whatnot.
That's exactly the kind of music we hate, and because of the fact that they only talk about sex, drugs, etc. I'm not saying old rap is bad like that, but I won't like the style just because it talks about good things. It's just musical preference, and people shouldn't get so worked up about who likes what. I really like metalcore, but the majority of people on the Earth don't. I could care less how many people like it or call it crap or w/e. I like it, and that's all that should matter to me.
I like the old 70's, 80's, and 90's rap, but the rap today is just dumb. No, I really don't care how many cops you can shoot, or how badass you are, or how much weed you smoke, or how big your genitalia is... Rap today just makes me so angry...
There are a few rappers today who do 'keep it real' and show talent and skill, and have good meaningful lyrics. But very few do. I think if people dont understand rap, hiphop and its roots, they dont have the right to disrespect it. Artists in the 70's, 80's and early 90's set a standard however and I do think the genre is going downhill.
People who listen to all the radio tv rubbish and judge every hiphop song in a negative way, dont understand hiphop and where it came from. I belive if people are going to judge it at least listen to the REAL stuff, the original underground stuff. Not all the mainstream junk.
