Oil and petroleum have become so rare, back when you bought instead of stole, oil was over 200$ a barrel. A price many would rather kill for than pay. Low stock lead to high prices, high prices lead to riot, riot lead to acts of violence, and violence lead to bombings, invasions, killing, and war.
