MAG (Massive Action Game) on the PS3 will have 256 player online mulitiplayer with people split up into 8 man squads to participate in a huge battle. Regardless of weather you think MAG will be good or bad, Do you think large amounts of players will be the next big thing for online shooters?
I'll have to agree with armor_stormtrooper. But it might be kinda hard to rely on other people when A)You don't know them B)They're total dick heads. xD I think the game will be a success, it might. We'll see though.
I was actually thinking about this type of multi-player when trying to think of ways Halo Reach could be different. It's a great idea, though. Instead of everyone just running around with no plan what so ever, this type of gameplay may lend itself to opportunity for strategic attacks. Or players could just break up with their squads and go randomly killing like a maniac, we have yet to see.
YES! i have cod5 for the ps3 and the game mode i really play often is ground war due to 18 people when the rest have 12. i had socom CA for ps2 and i loved it for having 32 people. MAG sounds amazing with over 200 people =D yes it sounds amazing!!!!!!!
It must be really fun, but the problem must be to get enough people to play the game ^^ Or to replace the missing ones by IA, but it's like a disadvantage ...
There's also leaders, sub-leaders, and stuff like that. Chances of getting a good leader, who is focused on objectives? SLIM. On psn, people can't/won't even talk to each other most of the time. And if they can, how many times can you think of when they actually made a plan for capture the flag or something?

You make a good point there. Leaders in games are not always good, and on the psn since not everyone has a mic(All 360's come with one), makes it difficult to communicate properly. I mean using a keyboard is a bit annoying, and you don't have time to type while shooting really. I think games like this would be more successful on Xbox Live honestly, but this game will probably still be successful regardless.
haha well its gonna be awesome. To bad for the xbox 360 ppl thow haha, cuz its finally a ps3 exclusive game thats gonna be extremely kick @ss.. Anyways the games broken down into three teams, when u start the game you have to pick one of them. From then on you will be stuck with this team until you reach level 60, then you can switch to another one. This is why its possible to have 256 players playing alot of the time, cuz as long as 132 players are online on both teams, a game will start (which is extremely possible considered the games barely anyone plays still has over 1k people playing it). You start off as rank 1 in a squad controlled by a squad leader. You can only talk to ur own squad and squad leader. There are 4 squads in a platoon, therefore 4 squad leaders in each platoon. These guy can talk to each other, there squad, and there platoon leader. There are 4 platoons, and of course each with there platoon leader able to talk with each other, there squad leaders, and the general commander of there army. This is how strategy can be formed, and how you are able to designate commands to everyone. The game makers decided to make it in the same command scheme as modern armies. Personally I'd only try to become a squad leader, as im only controlling 8 guys, instead of 32 or even 136 lol.... Anyways the way this is kinda like an RPG, is the fact that there is a bunch of different ways to upgrade your guy. For instance, if you want to be a quick assassin (like what I wanna be) you can increase how long you can sprint, what guns you are better with, and how fast you go. (now im not certain those are all gonna be in the game, but im just tryin to give examples)... Also instead of upgrading your guy, you can upgrade your status in the army, therefore allowing you to climb the ranks to become a squad leader, or even platoon leader.

There are some major problems with that statement.....
1) The xbox 360 isn't powerful enough to handle MAG so it probably would never work for any games like it
2)Dedicated servers are required for something like MAG unless you want it to be a lag fest and Microsoft probably would never let people use dedicated servers (I mean Modern Warfare 2 could be 2 times better if it had dedicated servers)
MAG is just going to be a bloody battle field. the only thing there are online games are 1.dick heads that only argue about every single thing and 2.People that like to do whatever they feel like doing.
Can you imagine a game where 1 single moron controls 100+ people to lead an attack lol??? he would like make them all roll over and do the hokey pokey. Now that would actually be pretty bad ass going up in ranks and all and i would personally love to be a grunt the whole time because of the action and being in the frontline. Would thise game need extreme connections to keep that many people together??? I wouldnt actually like to stay in a battle for hours either >>
