Hey, after reading a few posts, I was appalled by how many people on AG shut out science for the mere fact that they don't like it. I'm not talking just about the super-religious people, I've also seen a few people who said no to science just because they could. They didn't listen or pay attention to any evidence or sources brought forward, and they did not use vocabulary correctly. They claimed something wasn't true at all and that it's impossible to figure out what happened, "B cuz i wusn't there lololololololol" They were flaming, flaming, trolling, trolling, knowledge haters. Just flat out haters. I'm tired of these people, you know? Please, share your thoughts on this.
I don't call science a fairy tale. I call baseless theories made up by athiests fairy tales. My favorite theory is the one where our world was created by aliens. That one had to be real hard to think up. And think of all the proof backing it!!!
So, in the part where I asked for a peer reviewed journal by a *real* scientist and not three complete quacks who have enough money to host a domain name and a server - what part didn't you understand?
This argument seems to be headin down the same road as every other science/religious debate.
One topic I would like to see the religious and scientifc folks discuss is the paranormal. Be it demons, lost souls, or w/e, I just feel like there is something going on.
Here is site that I just looked up (I searched famous ghost photos) and it has some of my favorites: http://www.proofparanormal.com/famousandclassicghostpictures.html
Every time I've seen legitimate scientists and photographic experts take a crack on claims of the paranormal they get debunked as natural phenomena or fakes.
It's like you see in all of those shows they walk around with EM meters and then get all freaked out when it goes off - they're not even paying attention to the electrical sockets sitting on the wall 2 feet from the meter. Or they hear the house's wood settling & think it's someone walking around. Reminds me of this video....
I feel they're mutually exclusive. I don't see how you can stick with science for almost everything of what happens in our universe and then defer to something for which there's no science for existential truths.
Weird...in my belief system, God created a universe for humans to FILL and SUBDUE. In order to do that, we must UNDERSTAND it. That is science, is it not?
a:knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through scientific method b:such knowledge or such a system of knowledge concerned with the physical world and its phenomena ~Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Again, is understanding the universe so that we can fill and subdue it not science?
What if your role a die with several septillion sides 60 centillion times?
I happen to know that this is not the case. The chances of living things being formed by chance are comparable to the chances of a hundred monkeys pounding out a specific sentence on a hundred typewriters...or the chances of a robot being formed by a tornado swirling through a junkyard. Think about the chances of getting some amino acids in a pool to form RNA the way the scientists did it...pretty high, right? You just need a pool of amino acids and it should work. Then, think of the chances of those forming DNA. A little lower, but still quite high. The chances of the DNA surviving harsh conditions long enough to form life? Well, first, you need to figure out the chances of the DNA being formed correctly so that it codes a possible living creature. The chances go downhill from there...
Actually this theory is just as valid as the others. And yes, it was SCIENTISTS who developed it. Pastafarianism is a religon, this is not.
So...science is defined by the people who made it? You suddenly call an idea as abstract as the flying spaghetti monster science because scientists developed it and made their own reasons? LOL...some science :P
Weird...in my belief system, God created a universe for humans to FILL and SUBDUE. In order to do that, we must UNDERSTAND it. That is science, is it not?
Understanding the universe is science, yes. Believing that a god created the universe is religion.
Side note: I left for 3 and a half hours and, when I came back to the thread (and posted my previous post), there were 3 and a half new pages. Therefore, you guys made 1 page per hour. That means this thread was created 14 and a half hours before my previous post. Am I right?
PS:about this...
Good Lord when will people learn the difference between forums and threads. A forum is a collection of threads. A thread is a collection of posts....
notice that I wrote "forum" and not "forums." I was scanning this particular forum when I came across this particular thread and found it interesting
Guys, can you please watch yourselves? I've seen some slight flaming going on, and I don't want any of you to get banned. This whole argument is getting ridiculous. I want this thread locked.
