Here are a few to get you started
(football) Tom Brady
(baseball) Alex Rodriguz
(basketball) Lebron James
(hockey) Marian Hossa

I say Tom Brady.

The athlete of the decade is Usain Bolt. His personal best is 9.58!

why is a rod there there are better choices in baseball but whatever the best athlete if the decade i think would be albert pujols. he played for nine or ten years and he hasnt batted below .314 and there still are other amazing stats too.

Ya Albert Pujols is probably the player of the decade.

For football I think it could be Troy Polamalu.

Usain Bolt. He killed the rest and basically took a break before the finish line.

Aside from the Bolt and Phelps I think Federer and Nadal deserve a mention they are both such dominant forces in tennis. If this thread was sportsman rather than athlete I would have mentioned Schumacher again just for sheer domination. eeerrrrrr.... who else :? James Cracknell for golds at Athens and Sydney as well as rowing the atlantic.

I can't do a thread like this without making a list of footballers which is hard because there aren't many that have performed consistently across the whole decade. Zidane and Henry were amazing at the start of the decade but haven't lasted; C. Ronaldo and Messi etc. just weren't around at the start of the decade. I think the people that have been great for a decade (bearing in mind I dind't start watching football till the 2005-06 season) are Gerrard, Giggs (begrudgingly), Casillas, Lampard. I'm sure their more but I'm being kinda anglo-centric here.

I'd say Usain Bolt. Beat the world record with his shoes untied. On a diet consisting solely of chicken nuggets.
