Prologue
The town was beautiful at sun down, it was a jewel savored by many who crossed into its borders. The old train station took in many young visitors who were trying to escape the reality of life. They white stone buildings radiated sunlight across the brick streets. It was a small and homely town, but it was not untouched by industry.
The flying transports came and went from the new airship site, and brought along many intelligent minds. Progress they said, but many people wished things would stay the same. The young of the town and the old, but change always comes about sooner or later. The town square was always full of merchants and story tellers, even wizards and musicians.
The town was almost untouched by the civil war that was raging inside the country. A ridiculous war some say, but the powers of the two sides did not think so. The wizard rebels were enraged by the increasing taxes that the country of Fairforest constantly pushed upon them.
Marcus Rosh, the king of Fairforest, had needed more wizard troops to build his defenses, but the wizards could send none because they preferred research to violence. Because of this refusal, King Rosh decided to make them send more money in exchange for troops. The wizards had no intention of putting up with this and rebelled.
This story takes place in a dark and confused land. This is not about a soldier or the war, but about a young man, who has lost his way in the scheme of life. He has set off to find himself in the cold cruel world.

Pretty good so far. You started out strong with some very specific adjectives complimented by strong nouns and verbs, but you got simpler and simpler towards the end. That has plagued me in the past with creative writing, and is one of the hardest things I've overcome so far.
Other than that and a few grammar mistakes, this looks pretty good so far. I think it'll get even more intense once you start with the main character.
