How is it overrated? I never thought about this and I really don't think it is. It's just a higher quality way to see movies and watch TV. There's no reason to go question good TVs like this lol.

HDTV is not overrated. The difference between 1080p(HDTV) and 480p(SDTV) is significant.

I remember growing up with a TV that only used an antenna. I would have to go to a friends house to watch "cable" tv. I rarely watch TV but the time I do I really like HDTV. Also watching movies in HD is very nice. I would say it truly is worth the hype and maybe worth the cost. I like it and I will go with it.

watch a football game in regular satellite tv and then watch the same game in HD tv.... you can tell the difference... worth the money? probably not .. but it looks a lot better

It's overrated if you're somebody who regularly appears on TV, for example celebrities and newsreaders. The definition is so much better that now you can see 3 hour-old stubble- the newsreaders have to shave so many times they get razor rash somewhat wicked!

Also, you can see the scar lines from cosmetic surgery, every little wrinkle of cellulite, and makeup no longer covers blemishes. It's a Hollywood nightmare and probably causes many a TV socialite many more wrinkles for the public oggling.
