im just asking if you guys think that professional game reviewing sites such as ign or gamespot are really worth looking at?
these days i find those sorts of reviews are getting more and more un-reliable, as the professional rating dont seem to reflect a more lay-mans impression of a game. for example devil may cry4 got a 9 out of 10 on ign.com, when the game in my opinion is quite simply horrible... fifa 10 got a 9.3 on ign when it is essentially the same fifa game weve been playing for years (altrhough with updated graphics) and gamespot gave call of duty world at war an 8.6...
I think that professional game reviwers have bias in there reviews. Like if they play a sports game and they hate sports, they would find every little bad detail just to make it look bad, when its really good. You want to look for unbiased reviews, which is hard to find now days.

There's no such thing as an unbiased review.
Professional game reviews are useful because they're opinions from people who're more experienced than the average bear.

OPINION
You're less experienced and less knowledgeable than the professional reviewers. That's why they're professionals, and that's why their reviews aren't pointless - they bring an experienced perspective to a game.

Well, those're their more experienced, more reliable, more trustworthy opinions. Deal with it.
pofessional game reviewers are like movie critics. You will find one that loves the game, you will find someone who thinks its barf on a spinning disk. Sometimes they're right sometimes they're wrong. I alwas try to rent a game first or find a friend that will let me try it out for a day. Video games are expensive and you got to be careful with your money now a days. so the trick is finding a reviewer that thinks like you.
It's just better to look at the game and see if it interests you then look at the review and try assimilate what you think the game would be like. Don't wholly hinge on what reviewers say people have their own preference but when the reviewers scores are on the extremes they are probably right.
The professional reviews (at least the high quality ones) outline the best and worst features of the game and attempt to give you a mental image of what the game is like and then give their opinion. I personally use a review to get an idea of a game and then, if it at all sounds even halfway decent, I'll watch a trailer on Youtube and then, if I'm still interested enough, I'll rent it. Renting is the best way to determine the quality of a game but a review, IMO, is the best thing that's free.
