I'm not sure how many of you will have heard this in the news since it maybe doesn't affect you however..... There was an A-Level Biology exam on Monday that has attratced a truck-load of complaints from students sitting it and teachers alike.
Yea, pretty much. In the UK, we do 2 years after compulsory education. In the first year you take your AS exams. In the second year you take your A2 exams. Together they add up to a total mark for each subject, and are divided into A*,A,B,C,D,E and U. Most commonly, you send off a university application at the beginning of your A2 year, before you have taken your final exam, but you have your AS results, and your predicted grades to be judged upon. If you get an offer of say 2 As and a B to get into your preferred university, but the exam board (AQA) in this case, mucks up the writing of the exams for your subject and you don't make the grade, you don't get in, and you either have to go into clearing, or retake it and apply the next year.
Succinctly, if you don't get your grades, it can screw up your plans big time. If I didn't get the grades because of a poorly drawn up exam, I'd be royally pissed.
I picked Law for A-level, I messed up my exam so badly and AQA was the exam board. :l
Honestly, I don't even know why anyone who wants to get into law would do it A level or uni. It's not necessary, and is a hell of a lot of boring reading. Trust me, my old flatmate studied law, and he hated it. I almost felt sorry for him, if it weren't for the 60k p.a. he gets straight out of uni. Lucky sod.
