While talking with a few friends in study hall today, I came upon the thought of patenting things everyone uses everyday, that have no patent. (to my knowledge anyways)
Like...the english laungege. Is it illegal for me to get a patent on it, and start charging people money to use it?
Or could I patent the color purple? Just for kicks and giggles?
Or perhaps water, just to mess with peoples heads?
I'm sure something somewhere prevents me from doing this, but is it possible and has anyone ever tried?
Why, that's evil. If you patented the english language you would be rolling money in by the millions. But then, people would change languages. Of course, if you patented water...
Patents and copyrights are two different things. GNU Free License is copyright. And you can't copyright a language, but you can copyright a work done in a language.
