Hello, first thread here, i'am kalle from sweden and i have been "working" as a producer for a couple of years. I love gamemusic with something that stands out and not just moodmusic, final fantasy and metroid music for example.
I have been thinking for a while that i wanted to do music for movies but i have realised that i would rather work with gamemusic. I have no experience in this at all but i feelt really inspired this day so i wrote two songs and posted it here on my old myspace www.myspace.com/datingatmehouse Feel free to take a look and comment, would be fun to hear some constructive critisism. It's just demos and i have only worked with it for about 2-3 hours.
What i wanted to ask was if someone here maybe knew of anyone who makes games and would like to have some music into it, would be really fun. Don't be freightened at the lack of soundquality at the myspace, it's merely ideas for songs.
I would really do just about anything, all from an RPG with cute flute or heavymetal actiongames, as long as it is a good game. If you're intrested you can post something here or add my msn
Im sorry to say that i havent, but if you want i can send you a rapidshare link and you can download it, just one song though. http://rapidshare.com/files/344605553/Datingmusic-Behind_Space.mp3.html try that.
Yeah sure, but strange that the myspace wont work, as i said i have only done this since yesterday so only have two more songs, and they are far from ready, just some demos.
If you like you can send something you want me to copy if you want something special. Cause these songs are pretty much the same, just recorded on my macbook with garageband and since i have access to a big studio i can make the sound alot better and more well arranged.
I'm actually reminded of the soundtrack to Unreal Tournament.
Unfortunately right now I have no real opportunity to use your skills or resources, but if something comes up, I know somebody I can approach! In the meantime, for what it's worth, if somebody else is looking for a VGM composer I'll happily refer them on to you.
Yeah thanks, no one else seeme to be intrested anyway=)
I just wanted some feedback, tips and ideas on how i should do to take this to a daily workbasis, if i had alot of work then i could do it really cheap but it seems like it's alot of guys like me out there, and it also seems like it's more important with luck and connections rather than being really good.
Im not saying that im that good but i think with the right game i could have done something really good with it, i work hard as shit also but i really need some pointers on how to take contact with the right people, basicly=)
To be honest I think as things stand you'd have more success at Newgrounds. They've got quite the established audio portal and tons of experienced game developers.
Thanks alot! just one question. I really have no idea what to charge and now this dude wants me to do the music to a reall crappy game, then i think that if im gonna do the music i have to charge like the maximum amount of money there is, but haha i have no idea at all. Maybe around 100 dollars? anyone has an idea?
A hundred bucks is actually quite a significant sum for an individual to pay. If you're simply doing a game loop and you're new to the scene, I would probably shoot for twenty USD for starters (for a minute-long loop) and work your way from there. This way you might get repeat business and a growing client base (after which you can start jacking your prices as demand increases.)
